Our Organization and Mission

The Division of Drugs, Devices and Cosmetics (DDC)regulates under the provisions of the Florida Drug and Cosmetic Act (Chapter 499, F.S.) by licensing, registering, inspecting, and investigating the manufacturing, distributing, and sale of drugs, medical gases, and cosmetics in the State of Florida. The Program carries out its responsibilities through three bureaus: Compliance & Enforcement, Licensing, and Legal.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a career service, non-sworn investigator position assigned to the Tallahassee Headquarters Office. The selected applicant:

  • The person assigned to this position will perform, on behalf of the DBPR subdivision (the “organization”), currently the Division of Drugs, Devices, & Cosmetics, charged with enforcing Chapter 499, Florida Statutes, The Florida Drug and Cosmetics Act (the “Act’) and the administrative rules promulgated under the Act, Florida Administrative Rule 61N-1 (the “Rules”), registration, inspection and investigative activities necessary to meet the requirements specified in the Act and the Rules.

  • These activities include performing initial pre-permit inspections, routine inspections, investigations in response to complaints, virtual or desk inspections and investigations, and other similar activities.

  • The employee in this position will work in a specific geographical area and will be assigned work outside the area.

  • Advises, interfaces with, and coordinates with federal, state, and local law enforcement and regulatory agencies and authorities, including, as assigned, interagency task forces.

  • Represents the organization as a recognized source of expertise and authority in conferences, meetings, and presentations involving issues of considerable importance.

  • Inspects, monitors, and investigates persons and establishments subject to the Act, including applicants for permits issued under the Act and establishments permitted under the Act, for compliance with the Act and the Rules.

  • Investigates violations of the Act, the Rules, and state and federal statutes, rules, regulations and other laws concerning drug, devices and cosmetics.

  • Primary responsibility within the geographical are for inspecting, monitoring, and investigating persons, establishments, and activities related to compressed medical gas and compressed medical oxygen manufacturing, wholesale distribution, and retailing.

  • Assists the organization’s drug inspectors and other compliance/enforcement personnel in conducting onsite inspections and investigations and in gathering, inventorying, cataloging, transporting, and storing documents and other evidence, product samples, and property embargoed or otherwise seized under the Act.

  • Gathers and analyzes evidence and prepares and submits technical and operational documents related to inspections and investigations, including inspection and investigation reports, complaints, notice of inspection results, and warning letters, all within specified time limits.

  • Assists in developing and training other department personnel regarding the organization’s operational tools, including equipment, hardware, and software, for use in performing assigned duties.

  • Advises the Pharmacy Program Manager and the Chief of Compliance and Enforcement on policies, procedures, and improvement initiatives. Contributes to the development of organizational forms, practices, policies, procedures, and training.

  • Educates the regulated industry about compliance with the Act, the Rules, and state and federal statutes, rules, regulations, and other laws concerning drugs, devices, or cosmetics.

  • Provides testimony at trials, hearings, depositions, and proceedings concerning matters within the scope of the described duties, including inspections, investigations, chain of custody, and records.

  • May be required to provide testimony as designated a records custodian for purposes of authenticating department records.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including providing assistance in response to and recovery following natural or man-made disasters and other emergencies.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, is essential.

    Minimum Requirements :

  • A high school diploma or the equivalent and six (6) years of related professional or paraprofessional experienceand/or

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of professional investigative, legal, administrative, systems analysis, management analysis, program planning, program research or program evaluation experience;and/or.

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of the required experience.

  • Valid Driver License.
