Position Summary Information
General Summary
TheProcess Control Specialist Iperforms professional engineering work in the field, plant and/or office.
Essential Functions
Participates in a variety of special projects including analysis, testing, and inspection functions
Programs and debugs process control systems including but not limited to field elements and devices, PLCs, HMIs, and reporting software
Recommends changes to control strategies or operational modes based on observation of control loops
Represent the Division in design teams for facility construction projects
Participates in testing, debugging, and start-up of new processes and equipment
Responds to calls to emergency situations outside of normal work hours to support WSSC Water business
Other Functions
Deploys and commissions PLC based RTU’s in the WSSC Water’s SCADA system
May be required to participate in the group’s emergency duty program
Recommends hardware and software changes and upgrades to existing systems
Reviews plans of projects for functional design and conformance to Commission standards, specifications, and contractual requirements
Performs other related duties as required
Work Environment And Physical Demands
Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces and elevated locations
Ability to hear audible alarms and abnormal equipment noises
Ability to visually inspect equipment and processes any time of day or night
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Some knowledge of modern principles and practices of engineering
Some knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the operation, maintenance, and construction of utilities
Good knowledge of computer operation and automatic process control
Skill in making engineering computations, estimates, and designs and in preparing plans and specifications
Ability to design, modify, and oversee automated process control as it deals with both chemical and mechanical processes
Skill in conducting engineering research work and in writing technical reports
Ability to understand computer software languages as they relate to the field of engineering
Ability to work with contractors and the general public and to effect satisfactory working relationships; good professional engineering judgment
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering (environmental option), Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems Management or degree related to industrial process control
OR
High School diploma or equivalent
4+ years experience in an engineering instrumentation/communications, electrical or operational environment
Additional Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license, with no more than 4 points, and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver’s permit within 90 days of hire or transfer
May be assigned to participate in the Group’s Emergency Duty Program
Will be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal work hours to support WSSC Water business
Completion of the WSSC Water Financial Disclosure statement within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter
Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work.
