Position Description

KBR’s global business comprises two main segments – Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) and Government Solutions (GS). This role sits within STS in the Integrated Solutions business unit. Integrated Solutions is the engineering and project delivery group providing services which include front-end and detailed engineering, procurement, construction services, and program management primarily in the hydrocarbons and energy transition industries.

KBR typically execute highly technical traditional energy projects and are now developing into renewable energy projects. The candidate should be willing to learn new skills and develop in a large range of areas including Onshore, Offshore, LNG, Floating, Refining and Petrochemical. KBR are also committed to expanding in renewable energy sectors including wind, biofuel, carbon capture and hydrogen.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Piping Engineer to take the role of Deputy Piping Discipline Manager. You should be forward thinking and support the Piping Discipline Manager in leading the discipline successfully on projects, as well as ensuring KBR are continuously improving to deliver the challenges of future projects. The candidate must provide guidance and empower those around them. The candidate must be open to new methods of working and encourage innovation without compromise on quality. Good communication skills are required to coordinate with Project Managers, Engineering Managers and Engineering Disciplines.

The role is a dual matrix role distributed equally between projects and functional support. The Leatherhead office is an international hub that provides support to other offices as required, the role may require some short-term travel on business trips.

The position is based in KBR’s Leatherhead Campus. Flexible working can be discussed.

The successful applicant must have a current and valid Right to Work in the UK.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Piping Discipline Manager to set the future direction of the discipline.

  • Support recruitment within the discipline by screening candidates and carrying out interviews. This will include experienced personnel as well as graduates and apprentices.

  • Assist staff with setting goals and objectives and help provide opportunities for them to fulfil their career development. Support staff through mentoring and coaching.

  • Provide staff for projects and proposals and ensure that adequate personnel resources are available.

  • Shared responsibility with the Discipline Manger for all aspects of engineering activities undertaken within piping on proposals and projects.

  • Participate in the resolution of requests for correction or preventive action on projects.

  • Lead corporate piping development initiatives and assign resources to produce measurable outcomes.

  • Under broad direction, supervises and leads a group of engineers and designers on a given corporate project.

  • Sets the technical standards and procedures for the project using a group of engineers and designers.

  • Ensure the continued development and application of KBR technology, execution methods and procedures for projects.

  • Committed to building good relationships with other KBR operating centres to ensure that ONE KBR project execution is successful.

    Skills / Experience:

    Essential

  • Knowledge and proven experience in a lead engineer’s role, from pre-FEED to EPC. Significant EPC experience is essential.

  • Background should show a progression in roles from within the piping group into a lead position.

  • Good communication skills to encourage and empower others.

  • Able to multi-task in a fast environment and request support when required.

  • Experience in multi-centre project execution.

  • Subject matter expert skills in Plant Layout and Piping Design.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer

  • Construction / Commissioning support experience
