YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED?

We are seeking a Senior Pedestrian Modeller to be based out of either Newcastle, Leeds or London who can:

This role has arisen due to an expanding workload and the need to grow the team. As well as supporting our current workload, this is an exciting opportunity to develop a long-term career in all aspects: technical, commercial and managerial.

  • You will work mainly on pedestrian modelling aspects of projects (with support of experienced transport planners / modellers);

  • You are expected to have a well-developed ability to complete tasks independently, which will include but not be limited to model building, calibration/validation, model testing and auditing, checking and analysis of model outputs; Expected to work collaboratively as part of multi-disciplinary in-house project teams;

  • Preparation and contribution to technical papers and client reports as well as assisting with bid responses;

  • Opportunities for short-term secondments with major clients;

  • Contribution to our process of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing relating to transport modelling across our national transport planning business;

  • Involvement in UK as well as international projects, including overseas travel opportunities;

  • Skills transfer to junior team members; task managing and supervising their work in line with project deadlines and being mindful of budgetary limitations;

  • Direct reporting and liaison with external and internal clients.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • An undergraduate degree in a numerate or transport discipline;

  • Masters level degree in a transport discipline would be beneficial but not essential;

  • A pedestrian / transport modeller with hands-on modelling experience in consulting or public sector organisations, experience with pedestrian modelling software;

  • Experience in Bentley Legion is essential. Complementary (but not essential) software skills could include PTV Viswalk, CAST, Mass Motion, VISUM, VISSIM, S-Paramics, SATURN, AIMSUM, LINSIG, TRANSYT, ArcGIS, Power BI;

  • Knowledge of, and experience in, the application of relevant pedestrian planning guidance (e.g. LUL’s SPSG, The Green Guide, Network Rail Station Capacity Planning Guidance) and static capacity assessment techniques (e.g. PCL);

  • Good communication skills with experience communicating ideas to a non-technical audience – through written reports, technical meetings and formal presentations;

  • Strong analytical / critical thinker able to interpret numerical results and extract understanding;

  • Appreciation of project delivery within a commercial organisation (e.g. H&S, programmes, risks and issues, resourcing, budgets);

  • Any other Transport Planning experience within a commercial environment may be beneficial – for example supporting Development Planning applications through Transport Assessments, Rail Operations modelling or Traffic modelling. Similarly, knowledge of particular sectors (Airports, Rail, Sports/Event Management) could bring advantages to the team.
