Shire Sr Operational Excellence Specialist in Lexington, Massachusetts

Primary Role:

Reporting to an Operational Excellence Coach, this position will help plan, coordinate & execute OE improvement projects, partnering with clients on a daily basis across the various site functions (Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Facilities & Engineering, and PDTS) at Shire to help build and embed behaviors, methodologies and common tools of a continuous improvement culture.

This position will be involved in a wide variety of activities including project management (Green Belt level), process evaluation, process mapping, data collection & analysis, project tracking & reporting, training delivery & content development, team coordination and facilitation. The position will work cross-functionally and cross-sites, with project leads, line management, employees and external partners.

Responsibilities:

90%:

Provide OE project management (Green Belt Level) and support. Coordinate business process evaluations, assisting with the creation of current & future state process maps (e.g. VSMs, SIPOCs). Collect, analyze, and summarize data using various Lean/Six Sigma/Op Ex tools. Lead the design and implementation of low to moderate complexity initiatives or events that eliminate waste, reduce cycle time and improve Shire business performance while establishing a sustainable model for continuous improvement.

10%:

Act as a coach and change agent to instill the continuous improvement culture throughout the organization. Communicate the learning, the thought processes and the impact across the organization and value delivery system. Train and coach resources on Lean Principles and Six sigma methods.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Engineering, Science, Supply Chain, Business Management. Advanced degree a plus.

  • Formal training in industrial engineering, lean/six sigma, applied statistics, supply chain management, and/or business process management strongly preferred.

  • 6-8 years experience in industry; may include co-op or intern experience.

  • Experience in biotech / pharmaceutical industries required.

  • Experience with Kaizen events and/or process improvement projects required.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training / certification or equivalent strongly preferred.

Other Job Requirements:

Minimal travel anticipated outside of local facilities. Travel to other Shire locations, globally, and to vendors may be occasionally required.
