Position Overview
Navistar is hiring a Project Engineer Senior - Application Engineer to join our Heavy Vehicle Platform Engineering team at our World HQ in Lisle, IL.
The Application Engineer / Project Engineer Sr. will work closely with Navistar’s dealers, customers and National Account representatives during the vehicle ordering process. This position will assist with specifying the correct truck to satisfy the end user application. This position will work across the Heavy On-highway products (LT and RH) to gain a thorough and complete understanding of all vehicles and how they are used by our customers in the field. This position will also be required to travel to customer/dealer locations for meetings, presentations, and conferences as and when required.
Responsibilities
Assist the dealers and customers with specifying the correct features to satisfy the end-user application and desired vehicle performance
Work within the Heavy Vehicle Platform to gain an understanding of on-highway commercial vehicles and how they are used by our customers in the field
Build and maintain relationships, through daily dialog, with dealers, sales, customers, internal cross-functional groups and Custom Engineering personnel
Act as the liaison between the dealer, placing an order for the customer, and the internal community for resolution of Special Quotations (SQ’s) generated by the dealer during the ordering process
Use available tools for investigating the order being placed, understanding vehicle/feature compatibilities, and proposing alternative solutions to issues encountered by dealers during the ordering process
Work in, and support, the SQ process, and propose process improvements to help streamline response time with quality answers to dealers and customers
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
At least 8 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities
OR
Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
At least 6 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities
OR
PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
At least 3 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
At least 1 year leading others in engineer/design activities
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong technical background to be able to effectively communicate with dealers/customers on issue resolution
Proven customer focus
Demonstrated ability to operate in a cross-functional environment
Ability to influence dealers and customers with proposed solutions
Deep knowledge of the product, its applications, and customers, including a working knowledge of the industry and legislated specifications
Thorough understanding of Navistar's sales process
Experience in Unigraphics, or similar CAD system
Engineering drawing database (Pharos) / Configuration database (CDMS)
