North Wind Group Material Coordinator (NWS 00688) in LIVERMORE, California

North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer's mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.

The Materials Engineering Division (MED) has an opening for a Material Coordinator to perform semi-skilled tasks in support of tradespersons involved in fabrication activities. Under general supervision, the successful candidate will solve fundamental problems relating to assignments. The successful candidate will provide advice to others relative to handling and disposal of waste materials (ie. machine oils and coolant). Interact with tradespersons and shop personnel. The selected candidate will report to the Area Shop Supervisor.

This position may require the successful candidate have the flexibility to work overtime, shift and or weekends to accomplish goals. The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments.

Essential Duties

  • Assist Machine shop personnel with machine tool installations and removals.

  • Assist machinists in making common setups on machine tools and other fabrication or inspection equipment.

  • Handle and dispose materials created from the operation of machining equipment such as lubricating oils and scrap material.

  • Clean and maintain shop equipment, machines, and work areas.

  • Prepare materials for use by skilled workers and dispose of scrap materials.

  • Prepare finished parts for shipment.

  • Operate overhead traveling cranes, hydraulic lifts, forklifts, and other handling equipment.

  • Perform machine tool coolant recycling and waste management.

  • Maintain proper oil levels for various machine tools.

  • Operate saws and maintain blade inventories.

  • Inspect the eyewash and emergency lighting systems and properly log results in inspection log.

  • Perform general shop housekeeping, organize and maintain inside and outside of shop.

  • Maintain shop vacuum systems.

  • Maintain and order shop supplies.

  • Maintain waste accumulation areas within the Manufacturing Engineering Section.

  • Perform all assignments in accordance with ESH&Q, Security, and business practice requirements and policies.

    Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • High School graduate, GED or certificate in machine tool, sheet metal, welding technology, or equivalent related shop experience.

  • Ability to follow written policy and procedures.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate material handling equipment including, forklifts and overhead cranes.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to comply with Safety, ES&H, Security, and business management policies and regulations.

  • Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and protection equipment.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license with the ability to operate common motor vehicles and obtain an on-site issued fork truck license.

  • Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and protection equipment.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

    Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Experience in shop math and mechanical drawing and blueprint reading

  • Experience in quality and productivity procedures.

  • Experience working in a machine shop environment, including use of basic hand tools and power saws.

  • Experience with LLNL ES&H procedures.

    Special Requirements

    Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

    Pre-employment drug test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

    Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.
