In this position...

Lead and support current model production & design problem solving for Driveline Components: Axle systems, Driveshafts, Half-shafts, and Transfer Cases. Lead cross-functional teams, using 8D and/or 6-Sigma Methodologies to improve product reliability.

  • For a given project, this may include all levels of delivery to production and service.

  • Example activities: Structured Problem-Solving, Re-Authoring and Executing Failure Mode Avoidance and Design Verification Activities, Design and Release (Production and Service), Supplier Engagement, Launch, Service/Field Communications, etc.

• Lead and support new technology / new product designs for Driveline Systems, using proven Reliability Methodologies, to deliver intended product reliability via the Design Verification (DV) process.

• Collaborate with Core Team Members (Technical Specialists/Leaders, D&R Engineers, etc) in support of project delivery.

• Provide Reliability Methods and Analysis coaching/guidance/expertise, on projects led by other Team Members with the Driveline Organization.

• Deliver project presentations to Leaders at all levels on project team progress, accomplishments, conclusions, and lessons learned.

What you'll do...

• Selected candidate(s) will become Directly Responsible Individuals (DRIs) leading cross functional teams thru disciplined problem-solving methods, with a focus on Reliability/Robustness Demonstration via appropriate testing methods and analysis techniques, all the way thru to institutionalized Prevent Recur.

• Applicants must possess a strong interest in learning and technical development. During the course of this assignment, applicants will be exposed to multiple problem-solving tools and methods, several different Driveline components, systems, software and Engineering groups, and Ford’s vast array of technology resources.

• Applicants will be required to interface with teams that include subject matter experts, allowing opportunities to expand their knowledge in these areas to learn the physics of how the systems and components work to support their project problem solving.

• Projects frequently target high profile, precision machined technology and provides the opportunity to present findings with Leaders at all levels of the company.

You'll have...

• BS degree in Engineering or similar technical field

• Demonstrated experience with structured problem-solving

• Experience with Driveline Hardware or similar components

• Familiarity with Manufacturing methods for Driveline Components:

  • Forging, casting, powder metal, precision machining, heat treatment, bolted joints

• Experience in design and release process (esp Failure Mode Avoidance and Design Verification)

• Experience in reliability statistical models

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several unique tasks simultaneously

• Experience Leading Teams and Coaching/Guiding others

• Ability to develop clear working level documents and management presentations

• Ability to comfortably present to the senior management team

• Proficiency with using Microsoft Office applications

• Strong Ford OS Behaviors: Deliver It, Own It, Do Only What Matters, Bias for Action, Seek to Understand, Solve Together

• Ability and willingness to travel to both Ford and supplier domestic and foreign locations

Even better, you may have...

• MS degree or 5 years’ experience in Reliability, Quality, Testing or Driveline Product Engineering

• Experience in both design and manufacturing of Driveline components.

• Experience with reliability modeling software – ReliaSoft, MiniTab, JMP
