About the Opportunity

Jacobs Energy Security & Technology business has over fifty years of experience across the complete nuclear asset lifecycle, from managing existing facilities or closing a legacy asset, to helping build next-generation nuclear systems. Reporting to the ES&T International, Senior Director of HSSE, the role sits within the HSSE central function and is responsible for the development, management, and promotion of the Environmental Management System (EMS) and Energy Management System (EnMS) which are certified to ISO14001 and ISO50001, respectively.

In this role you'll be supporting the business in meeting its environmental and sustainability requirements aligned with the business strategy and operating procedures. The position holder must have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of UK environmental and energy legislation (e.g. waste/Duty of Care regulations, F-gas regulations, environmental permitting requirements, Energy Performance of Buildings regulations) and external reporting requirements including ESOS, SECR and PPN 06/21 Carbon Reduction Plans and a working knowledge at a European level (e.g. Waste Framework Directive, Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, Energy Efficiency Directive, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive etc).

This role requires good collaboration skills and an ability to build and nurture strong relationships to achieve buy in from others.

The position is UK-based. Work location may be in office or hybrid within one of the Jacobs locations, however, travel to regional and the head office location will be required. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with business operational leaders to define and agree environmental and energy saving targets and goals

  • Ensuring that all environmental aspects and impacts are identified and managed for the business undertakings

  • Legal compliance and compliance with applicable standards for environmental impacts and energy use

  • Monitoring performance against targets and goals and other deliverables agreed with operations including developing an audit schedule and analysis of outputs to identify positive and negative trends and improvement actions

  • Develop leading and lagging metrics for the business and contribute to identifying improvement and mitigating actions

  • Producing regular performance reports for use by internal operations and function

  • Produce all reports, data and information required by legislation, standards e.g., ISO14001 and ISO50001 and government/ public procurement

  • Support the maintenance of the Business Management Documents (BMS) that relate to environmental and energy management

  • Build and maintain a register of environmental and energy related legislation applicable to the business undertakings

  • Lead on investigation of significant environmental incidents and record them in the company’s incident management tool

  • Be a visible and credible ambassador for environmental and energy management, leading by example and supporting operations to deliver on the agreed goals

  • Exemplary professional, demonstrating commitment to continued professional development

  • Participate in external networking and technical development that supports the business

  • Support and coach the development of office, site and client based environmental, and energy management leads and champions

  • Collaborating with office and facility leads to ensure management system and objectives and targets reporting requirements are met

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Relevant environmental qualification to Diploma level or higher

  • A good knowledge of environmental and energy management requirements, in particular those related to legislation, ISO standards & government procurement

  • Relevant industry experience, nuclear industry experience is not essential

  • Experience of working to ISO14001 and 50001 standards and auditor qualification

  • Competent with Microsoft Office applications

  • A good communicator both written, verbal and presenting

  • Experience of developing and delivering improvement programmes

  • Professional membership to a relevant body e.g. IEMA / REnvP

  • Security Clearance (SC) level or be prepared to obtain it
