About the Role

Overview

The Investment Specialist, Sustainable Investment, plays a key role in advancing Wellington’s commercial and product sustainability efforts. The role will focus on product management support of our flagship climate equity products while also partnering with Client Group and Product Management to implement commercial & client driven climate, net zero, and sustainability solutions. This role sits within the Focus Initiatives – Sustainable Investment group in the Client Platform and is based in London. The team’s mission is to serve as a force multiplier and SI center of excellence to deliver superior client outcomes and drive innovation and growth. The scope of work within the role will include both EMEA specific responsibilities as well as contributing to the team’s global business priorities, and it requires regular collaboration across groups within Wellington.

Role and responsibilities

Climate Equity Product Coverage

  • The Investment Analyst will work as part the climate product coverage team, providing analytical leverage to the team and serving as a point of contact for a variety of internal constituents regarding inquiries about the investment teams and products

  • Responsibilities include working directly with Investment Directors, portfolio managers, performing analyses related to portfolio positioning, attribution and risk, market trends, competitive positioning, and pricing

  • Additional responsibilities will also include creation and maintenance of marketing and client materials, climate reporting, review of RFPs, responses to client questions, automation of workflow, and collaboration on the development of client solutions and new investment approaches

Sustainable Investment & Climate / Net Zero Product Integration

  • Serves as a sustainable investment subject matter expert and resource for teams across Investment Products & Fund Strategies (IPFS) and the Client Group, partnering to address complex client queries particularly within the EMEA region

  • Contributes to complex SI product / mandate evolutions by serving as an SI product subject matter expert and member of the SI Product Integrity Working Group

  • Serves as a thought partner to the Climate Research Team, IPFS, PMs, and Client Group to navigate requests to incorporate Net Zero alignment into mandates

  • Supports the global commercialization strategy for our climate capabilities – including the Wellington Climate Leadership Coalition (WCLC 2.0) and our research partnerships with Woodwell and MIT

  • Contributes to the creation of a strategic content program to support the sustainable investment commercial agenda across Wellington’s four pillars of Impact, Climate, Stewardship, and ESG / Thematic Research. Content may include white papers, podcasts, marketing decks, RFP content; works in close partnership with Marketing

  • Contributes to the creation and delivery of an SI education program for the Client Platform, covering all facets of climate and sustainable investment

  • Helps to streamline the implementation of SI and mitigate risks, including establishing clear product integrity and guideline standards

  • Partners closely with Focus Initiatives – SI leadership to design and execute on strategically important global initiatives

Competencies – skills/knowledge/experience

Success in the role requires a high degree of flexibility, initiative, and can-do attitude. Demonstrated interest in both sustainable investment, in particular climate and transition risks, and the investment industry/markets more broadly, a passion for learning, as well as strong analytical skills are also key. A positive, collegial attitude and high level of professionalism are essential, as are creativity, initiative and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, global, team-oriented environment with tight deadlines.

We are seeking candidates who display the following characteristics:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with very strong academic credentials and a record of achievement

  • 3-7 years of relevant experience: experience with sustainable investment preferred, climate/transition risk specific experience is also preferred

  • Equity markets / product experience is preferred but not required

  • Project management skills

  • Demonstrated analytical skills including the ability to organize and synthesize data to reach conclusions

  • Solid judgment, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to take a differentiated perspective

  • Attention to detail combined with a solutions-oriented mindset

  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings

  • Articulate with an interest in developing presentation skills

  • Proactive with an ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a global team

  • Strong technical skills; mastery of MS Excel and familiarity with Factset are a plus but not essential

  • Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize time well

  • Grace under pressure with an ability to adapt to get things done
