Amazon’s Risk and Compliance Solutions (RCS) team is seeking an experienced Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to lead the team supporting Amazon’s regulated payment and lending services in the UK (Amazon Payments UK (APUK) and Amazon Capital Service Limited (ACS)). The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building and maturing compliance frameworks in the payments and/or merchant lending sector(s) in the UK, including extensive direct experience of speaking/liaising with supervisory regulators (FCA).

The CCO will support the UK Head of Compliance in the development and maintenance of a robust, effective and risk-proportionate regulatory and financial crime compliance framework across APUK and ACS. They own and maintain all of the associated compliance policies for these entities including for countering financial crime risk and promoting good outcomes in line with regulatory expectations. The successful candidate will also hold the role of Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead a team of regulatory and financial crime specialists to ensure Amazon operates in accordance with all regulatory requirements, and Amazon standards, relating to Regulatory Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing, Criminal Financing and Fraud.

  • Develop strategic and productive relationships with partner teams in Amazon (Tech, Ops, Product, Business) and advise them of significant compliance matters that require their attention or action. Proactively help the business team plan for changes in the compliance and regulatory environment.

  • Produce relevant MLRO reports and monthly management updates on financial crime, and advise on ongoing relevant developments both internally and externally (e.g. new products, risks, regulations etc.).

  • Provide thought leadership and executive challenge on financial crime prevention, acting as the financial crime point of contact for risk assessments relating to the entities, any new products or current products with a material change.

  • Deploy and enhance compliance oversight mechanisms and metrics for regulatory and financial crime risks and controls.

  • Advise on policy interpretations and working with the business to resolve breaches and violations of such policies, driving external reporting when required.

  • Oversee and conduct ongoing training and manage all necessary regulatory reporting.

Basic Qualifications

  • An excellent understanding of the current payments and lending regulatory environment and expectations, including relevant regulations and legislation.

  • Significant experience of second line compliance in Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing, Economic Sanctions, and Fraud Risk Management, gained at a financial institution.

  • An understanding of performing financial crime and compliance risk assessments in line with the associated regulatory requirements and guidance.

  • Extensive people management experience, helping to build high-performing teams that deliver results.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with ability to translate complex issues for consumption by technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management and executives.

  • Demonstrated ability to challenge the status-quo and drive for results in ambiguous and fast paced environments.

  • Capability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, problem solve, and continually calibrate priorities with minimal supervision.

  • Experience working with international teams across multiple time-zones.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Payments or e-commerce compliance background

  • Professional certification such as ICA, CISI, CAMS, or CRCM
