Job Title: Meter Inspection Technician
Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and professional Meter Inspection Technicians to conduct periodic facility inspections and surveys on utility-owned gas meters. This entry-level position requires mechanical aptitude, reliability, and professionalism as you will be entering customers' homes to ensure their safety. The role involves walking several miles per day and climbing stairs and ladders in various weather conditions.
Responsibilities
Perform periodic facility inspections and surveys on utility-owned gas meters
Complete all necessary documentation
Ensure readings and records are in compliance with all company and regulatory requirements
Support the successful completion of regulatory audits and inspections
Conduct integrity surveys, including direct assessments and close interval surveys
Perform audit reviews with operations and support them during audits
Essential Skills
Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
Professional demeanor and reliability
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Mechanical ability, with experience in cable tech, HVAC, piping, or auto mechanics preferred
Ability to walk and stand for 8 hours a day and climb stairs and ladders
Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Organizational, interpersonal, and initiative skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Intermediate knowledge of mathematics, algebra, and mechanical aptitude
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
1+ year of professional experience
1+ year of driving experience
Experience interfacing with technical services, government agencies, emergency planning committees, emergency responders, landowners, and contractors

Work Environment
This is a 100% field-based position requiring flexibility to travel within the utility territory, primarily in Brooklyn and Queens. Training includes OSHA orientation and classroom sessions, followed by field shadowing and competency assessments. Operations hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, with optional Saturday shifts. Equipment provided includes a simple tool set, flashlight, gas detector, field binder, ID badges, hand-held tablet, and safety gear.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
