WestRock Company Maintenance Manager in Longview, Washington

The Opportunity:

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for providing leadership and maintenance managerial direction for a large, integrated pulp and paper mill with 5 paper machines; a pulp mill and power recovery system with 2 recovery furnaces, 1 hog fuel boiler; 2 Kamyr Digesters, an NSSC plant and a Wood Yard and Chip Handling System. The Maintenance Manager manages an organization with approximately 190 personnel and is charged with development and execution of maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability, reduces overall maintenance cost, and ultimately improves productivity of the mill’s manufacturing processes. As a member of the Mill Leadership Team, the manager will help to establish, drive, and achieve mill-wide performance goals and objectives.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (mechanical, electrical, industrial engineering) or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Combination totaling 10+ years maintenance and engineering experience for a large, complex manufacturing facility in the pulp and paper industry with a minimum 5-year progressive management experience including performance management responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical components used in an industrial environment.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Develop and execute maintenance strategies to reduce unscheduled machine/equipment downtime and ensure timely completion of capital projects as well as overall facility and equipment maintenance.

  • Support manufacturing and equipment strategies through project management, capital planning and project execution.

  • Coordinate with mill leadership to plan, prepare and carry out planned maintenance and MOC (Management of Change) projects to ensure minimal downtime and reduce cost.

  • Oversee a team of maintenance personnel providing leadership and expertise to ensure safety, availability of resources and timely turnaround during unplanned downtimes.

  • Develop and implement processes and procedures that support safe work practices.

  • Prepare budgets and forecasting for annual maintenance plan as well as develop plans to minimize unforeseen maintenance costs.

Leadership

  • Champion safety and quality efforts with department leads and ensure appropriate relative training activities are completed as well as motivate others to be active in these areas.

  • Supervises subordinate employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance management; mentoring; disciplinary action; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Directs and supervises the work of contract employees.

  • Coordinate projects and provide leadership and assistance to cross-functional project teams. Teams may be made up of internal employees, consultants, or temporary staff across several business units.

  • Manage and maintain operations within allocated budget (staffing and departmental expenses).

Compensation Offered

  • Pay (or pay range): $129,500 - $206,900 DOE (Junior, Intermediate, Senior levels)

  • Bonus/Commission Eligible: Yearly Short-Term Incentive Program (STIP) Bonus based off metrics.
