Job Summary:

This position leads a team of highly skilled Steamfitters, Insulators, Welders, and support staff delivering HVAC, complex refrigeration, and utility (chilled water/steam) distribution work to the UW campus. This position provides a full range of supervisory functions. The team is responsible for the most complex and diversified research, educational, productional, and medical mechanical systems. This position will develop and implement process improvement initiatives to improve the delivery of the shop's products and services. The position will work with other supervisors, schedulers, and material support staff to plan and schedule the shop's work.

Responsibilities:Develops maintenance standards, coordinates maintenance and remodeling projects, monitors project plans, inspects work, and supervises personnel to ensure compliance with project timeline, plans, and safety regulations.

  • 30% Develops, directs, executes, and monitors operational work plans for a designated unit or affiliated projects to ensure compliance with plan regulations and timelines

  • 50% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

  • 10% Monitors the work unit or project budget and approves expenditures

  • 5% Serves as the unit liaison to internal stakeholder groups providing organizational information to align project objectives with overall strategic plans and initiatives

  • 5% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational plans and quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with general construction and maintenance practices

Three years leadership/supervision in facilities maintenance or construction. Trade background and knowledge of mechanical systems preferred.
