As aSous Chef at Black Horse Tavern & Pub (Mendham, NJ), you will play a pivotal role in our kitchen operations, assisting the Executive Chef in overseeing all aspects of activities. Your creativity, leadership, and culinary expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the delivery of high-quality dishes that exceed our guests' expectations.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist the Executive Chef in menu planning, recipe development, and execution to maintain high culinary standards.

  • Supervise and participate in the preparation and cooking of menu items, ensuring consistency and quality at all times.

  • Train, mentor, and lead kitchen staff to foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

  • Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and stock rotation to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.

  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, adhering to sanitation and safety standards set by regulatory authorities.

  • Monitor food costs and assist in developing strategies to optimize profitability while maintaining quality.

  • Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement new culinary initiatives, seasonal menus, and special promotions.

  • Actively participate in regular kitchen meetings, offering insights and suggestions for continuous improvement.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, culinary techniques, and new ingredients to inspire innovation in our culinary offerings.

  • Assist in scheduling kitchen staff, managing labor costs, and ensuring adequate coverage during peak hours.

    What You'll Need:

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or relevant leadership role in a high-volume restaurant or similar establishment.

  • Culinary degree or equivalent certification from a recognized culinary institution is preferred.

  • Strong culinary skills with a creative flair and a passion for delivering exceptional dining experiences.

  • Excellent leadership abilities, with the capacity to motivate and inspire kitchen staff to achieve culinary excellence.

  • Solid understanding of kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking techniques, and sanitation standards.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by business needs.

  • Knowledge of inventory management and cost control principles.
