Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineering Co-op will be involved in next generation product development for the surgical environment. The team environment consists of a well-rounded cross functional new product development team. The co-op will be responsible for 3D CAD design tasks, 2D drawings, concepts, hands-on assembly and verification testing. There will also be exposure to processes and documentation required to successfully develop medical equipment and an opportunity to gain hands on experience with rapid prototyping methodology, product development, and testing.

Dates: Spring + Summer 2025 (January-August 2025)
Hours: Full-time for the duration of your co-op
Location: Mentor, OH
Work Environment: Hybrid (opportunities to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays)
Duties
Assist with components and assembly design for products and test fixtures
Utilize PTC Creo to create 3D models of the designs and detailed 2D drawings
Develop demonstrations of various new product and component concepts
Build and test functional prototypes to demonstrate product concepts and functionality.
Develop test protocols then collect and analyze data
Develop mathematical models, applying statistics and equation describing physical phenomena
Follow industry codes, standards, and regulations
Take part in design review and verification activities
Research various technologies and materials
Communication of designs and test results to engineering and cross functional teams
Maintain a safe working environment and follow all safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (safety glasses, etc., as required) in the labs.
Required Experience
Student pursuing Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience using 3D CAD to model designs and then translate in 2D CAD drawings that can be used to produce prototypes.
Hands-on experience with tooling used in basic assembly or in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Requires organizational, communication, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills and a mature approach to cross functional working environments.
General proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Lab based coursework as well as practical experience in designing, building and testing electro-mechanical prototypes is highly desired.
Experience or interest in computer programming using applications such as Matlab and LabView is also desired.
