Amazon Senior Mission Manager, Project Kuiper in Merritt Island, Florida

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

The Project Kuiper team is looking for a Technical Program Manager with experience in launch vehicle and dispenser interface management; launch systems integration; mission management; project management; and program management for complex multi-manifest launches. The role will interface with cross-functional engineering and program/product management teams to manage launch campaigns, interface with launch vehicle and dispenser system providers, and interface with internal stakeholders delivering satellites to the launch site. Key job responsibilities

  • Plan efficient launch campaigns.

  • Manage a complex schedule developed with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Have technical proficiency with satellite integration.

  • Drive engineering project throughout launch campaigns, make technical trade-offs, track and report on status, and resolve blocking issues.

  • Oversee project plans for launch vehicle and dispenser system providers.

  • Lead launch integration activities at the payload processing facility / launch site.

  • Collaborate with payload processing facility stakeholders and drive requirements to closure.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders responsible for delivering satellites to the launch site and satellite handling during integration activities.

  • Collaborate with procurement, legal/regulatory and export control for contracts management, import/export, and related regulatory compliance.

  • Work with satellite subsystems product/program management to ensure that Range Safety compliance is met.

  • Fully competent in a variety of project management tools, methodologies and techniques for all phases of the project life-cycle and exhibit demonstrated proficiency in core project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality and risk management, reporting and metric development/tracking.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life

You will be assigned multiple launch missions a year to plan. For each mission you will be aligning launch dates with satellite production, coordinating resources to perform the launch campaign, verifying launch documentation is ready, and holding integration and launch readiness reviews. Your daily work will be with the Production Operations Team in Redmond or the Payload Processing Facility in Florida.

Work with a team of professional, experienced, space enthusiast Mission Managers to provide an efficient launch cadence to meet Kuiper production rates. Collaboration with various teams in Kuiper is essential as we strive to innovate and make launch as routine as boarding a passenger flight.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Astronautical Engineering or related field

  • Experience with schedule tracking and Program Management tools such as SmartSheet, Jira, and Confluence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Track record of executing complex, multi-manifest launch campaigns on time, to scope, with high quality.

  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines.

  • Independently driven, resourceful, and able to deliver results with minimal direction.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with engineers, business owners, and senior business leaders.

  • High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.

  • Experience interfacing with variety of launch and dispenser system providers, Range Safety officers and legal/export/regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.

  • Detail-oriented.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $119,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
