The Opportunity

This position is an onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. We are helping people with Diabetes lead healthier, happier lives. As a Systems Engineer IV, you will be responsible for supporting the system design and architecture of Abbott’s product offerings. They must ensure that product designs are safe and reliable while meeting user needs within budget, schedule and resources available to them. The position serves as a leading cross-functional role model and partner to other engineering functions such as Software, Hardware, Design Assurance and Human Factors. This role will lead a cross functional team on a subproject in the development of new products, as well as finding solutions to complex product development problems. You will develop system design documentation and requirements specifications, working with marketing, engineering and other stakeholders while participating in specialized functions such as algorithm development, user interface development, chemical process development or data analysis methodology.

This is an onsite opportunity in Milpitas, CA.

What You'll Do

  • Perform product definition, system architecture, requirements writing, requirements management, requirements analysis, risk analysis, hazard analysis, product test and evaluation, System V & V, and/or design control documentation.

  • Optimizes design processes.

  • Design and conduct system level characterization/verification of complex systems; collect, organize, analyze, and document test results.

  • Integrate analytical and performance related elements with software, hardware, and electronics system components.

  • Communicate effectively and participate on cross functional development teams with good negotiating skills to direct multi-disciplinary teams toward solutions.

  • Responsible for utilizing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

  • You will own and are accountable for defining and implementing the system design and architecture of an Abbott product.

  • You will employ leading-edge systems engineering techniques and industry best practices on safety-critical applications.

  • You will partner with Business Owners and Program Managers to define scope and translate customer and business needs into actionable engineering designs and requirements.

  • You will oversee technical design reviews to ensure that concepts and designs are safe for users, robust in reliability, delightful to use, and have an acceptable risk profile for use by users that is feasible to be implemented within budget, schedule, and resources available.

  • You will be responsible for partnering with the Systems Engineering manager or leader to create a high performing team that executes on the product vision.

  • You will be a role model for all engineers and cross-functional colleagues with your creativity, technical skills and practical design solutions.

Education and Experience You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelors Degree in an Engineering or physical science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Masters Degree Preferred

  • Minimum of 6+ years Product development experience in Engineering or physical science.

  • Strong knowledge of defined development process that is consistent with ISO, FDA design control standards or requirements.

  • Experienced in one or more of the following: Electro-mechanical, software, mathematical, chemical or biochemical technologies as they pertain to the design, integration, evaluation and commercialization of diagnostic systems.

  • Ability to work on many subjects concurrently.

Preferred

  • Minimum 3+ years experience working on a Systems Engineering team in a highly-regulated industry such as medical, automotive, or aviation

  • Experience with risk management, including cybersecurity

  • Demonstrated excellence in analytical and problem solving skill

  • Strong cross-functional project skills including planning, implementation, testing and delivery

  • Strong knowledge and experience of US FDA Quality System Requirements and OUS CE-Mark Requirements, ISO-13485, ISO-14971, IEC-60601, IEC-62304, ISO-11608

  • You follow established policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, but more importantly you are able to improve existing processes, create and document processes needed to design products efficiently

  • You are naturally positive (but realistic), energetic, and a strong advocate for safety, security and quality

The base pay for this position is $95,500.00 – $190,900.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
