Technologist, you will perform a variety of routine and special
histological procedures under the direction of the Manager. Procedures
include specimen accession, gross dissection, processing and embedding,
microtomy and staining of slides. Perform immunohistochemistry
procedures as described in protocols. In a primarily research setting,
the histology technologist role supports scientific projects by
providing histology services to investigators on and off campus. This
work directly contributes to the advance of knowledge in fields such as
medicine, pharmacology, physiology, pediatrics, and pathology. The
histology technologist holds exciting opportunities to contribute to
translational science in research and diagnostic initiatives while
working with a collaborative and supportive laboratory environment.
Responsibilities: Accession specimens, gross dissection, processing and
embedding, sectioning, and staining of tissue for both research and
clinical purposes under the direction of the Program Manager. Perform
Immunohistochemistry as described in protocols. Operate, calibrate,
decontaminate, and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment
used in research and clinical setting. Assist with the development and
validation of new antibodies and protocols including documentation of
antibody preparation, titration series and pretreatment strategies.
Prepare and maintain all necessary reagents, dyes, alcohols according to
manufacturer and laboratory specifications. Commitment to maintaining
laboratory standards and adhering to laboratory safety programs.
Accurate use of software requisition system including
editing/receiving/send out/documentation of ongoing and completed
research projects. Create and maintain timely and accurate records
include instrument QC and data management. Manage quality and inventory
of slides, data, specimens, and reagents. Prepare for College of
American Pathologists (CAP) inspection. Assists Manager with daily lab
operations and additional laboratory needs such as organizing, cleaning,
reagent disposal and other operational related duties. Knowledge -
