Sherwin-Williams Co. R&D- Technician II in Minneapolis, Minnesota

This Technician position for the Performance Coatings Group located in Minneapolis, MN is accountable for the timely development and commercialization into manufacturing of coatings that meet the customer's needs and specifications. The technician will be involved in the efficient operation of the lab, general housekeeping, ensuring a safe work environment and will independently perform tasks as outlined by his/her supervisor/manager. Work will be done in a variety of laboratory settings including a personal lab bench for testing paint samples, a shared area for making and preparing paint samples from 1 quart up to 5 gal in size, spray-application rooms for applying paint to metal panels, and a larger spray-application are for applying paint with larger production-type equipment (e.g. high-pressure air-assisted airless spray). Prepare paint samples. This involves weighing and measuring liquids and powders and closely following written paint formula instructions. This requires good attention to detail as well as being able to work quickly and accurately while maintaining a clean work area. Spray application. Training will be provided. This requires good hand-eye coordination. Most application includes conventional compressed air hand-spray equipment of quart quantities or less. Testing coated panels and paint samples. This requires good attention to detail and organization to ensure all test requirements are met. Must be able to carefully read and follow instructions and test specifications. Function with sustained supervision and write simple reports, outlining procedures used and the results obtained in a shared electronic lab notebook. This requires diligence, good note-taking and observational abilities. Guidance and priority will be provided on tasks however you will be responsible for organizing your own time and work plan to execute those tasks efficiently. Should be willing to seek assistance from their supervisor if anything is unclear. Complete proper forms and documents when necessary. Training will be provided to evaluate safety data sheets, place raw material orders, and ship products out of the lab. Verbally communicate routine information to supervisor and others in group. Recognize routine requirements and selects proper, simple procedures for obtaining desired results to solve problems. Some travel to other locations such as our manufacturing locations may be required Comply with all safety and security regulations and maintain a clean work area. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). * High school diploma or the equivalent of. * Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication and data analysis. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * 1-4 years of experience in a laboratory setting or experience with paint spray application such as at an industrial coating department.
