Job Description

AECOM Buildings + Places Architectural team is seeking a Senior Interior Designer to join our team. This position can be based out of either our Mississauga, Markham, Kitchener or London ON offices with opportunities for hybrid work.

AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to: Transit and Municipal, Commercial, and Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government.

Job Summary:

AECOM is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Interior Designer to join our dynamic team. As a Senior Interior Designer, you will play a crucial role in leading the design and development of interior spaces across a variety of projects. You will have the opportunity to work on projects ranging from commercial offices to healthcare facilities, educational institutions, cultural venues, transit facilities, social infrastructure buildings and beyond. You will collaborate closely with our interdisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and sustainable design solutions that exceed client expectations.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead the conceptualization, development, and execution of interior design concepts from inception to completion in a client facing role.

  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate interior design requirements seamlessly into overall project objectives.

  • Conduct client meetings and presentations to gather requirements, communicate design concepts, and obtain feedback.

  • Produce high-quality design deliverables, including sketches, renderings, mood boards, material palettes, and detailed construction drawings.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to intermediate and junior designers, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.

  • Work with Market Sector Leadership in a business development capacity to lead interior design pursuits, build the project fee, develop interior design approach/methodology, and assemble proposals.

  • Understands and applies business development concepts and principles, and financial terminology.

  • Stays updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in interior design, and integrate relevant innovations into project designs.

  • Ensures compliance with building codes, regulations, and sustainability standards in all design solutions.

  • Develops detailed design and construction document drawings for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria.

  • Exercises sound judgment in assessing problem situations or complex design issues and uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.

  • Understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management and can review/advise on purchase orders and subcontracts.

  • Intermediate knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs thorough and accurate material take-offs for the discipline.

  • Reviews completed work with design and drafting personnel responsible for its completion to ensure accuracy and compliance with codes and design data.

  • Advises the interior design director/leader about status of assignments with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems.

  • Understands and assists with the planning and scheduling of design tasks associated with assigned project.

  • Understands the role of each of the other disciplines and collaborates proactively mitigate coordination issues.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for the position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:

  • Bachelor of Interior Design or Bachelor of Applied Interior Design from a CIDA accredited University + six (6) years of experience in interior design

Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

  • NCIDQ Certification is required.

Preferred Qualification:

  • 10+ years working in interior design within a multi-disciplinary firm

  • Well Certification or knowledge of Well principles

  • LEED Certification or knowledge of LEED principles

  • Knowledge of BREAM principles

  • Proficient in Colour Theory

  • Proficient in Autodesk Products including AutoCAD and Revit

  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite

  • Familiarity with 3D rendering software

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite

  • Maintains a large network of suppliers and vendors

Relocation is not available for this position.

Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $81,000.00 - $120,000.00.
