The Opportunity

SSM Health Monroe Medical Group is actively recruiting for a full-time (1.0 FTE) optometrist at its Eye Clinics, located in Monroe, WI and Freeport, IL, will work collaboratively with our integrated SSM Health Davis Duehr Dean Eye Institute. This position will work Monday-Friday. This is great opportunity to build a practice with an established patient base and specialty access on-site. Our optometrists provide a high level of care to our complex patients, and partners with comprehensive ophthalmologists and other eye subspecialists (retina and pediatric ophthalmology) at that location. Subspecialists in retina, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology, cornea and oculoplastics are also located throughout our integrated eye network and are readily available for consults. Ideal candidates are board certified in optometry. Newer graduates will be considered; residency trained preferred and board certification would need to be obtained within five years of hire.

Job Summary:

Works in collaboration with department providers and/or other providers to plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate health and eye health care for routine, acute and chronic patients.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Examines eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness.

  • Analyzes test results and develop a treatment plan. As appropriate, prescribes eyeglasses, contact lenses, vision therapy and low-vision rehabilitation.

  • Consults with and refer patients to ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary.

  • Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.

  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors degree, with degree from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council of Optometric Education (ACOE) program. State licensure required based on location(s) of professional practice.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Constant standing.

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.

  • Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

  • Frequent use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).

  • Frequent walking, reaching, gripping and keyboard use/data entry.

  • Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

  • Occasional lifting/moving patients.

  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Occasional driving.

  • Rare crawling.
