rrPosition Summary:

rUnder the general direction of the Director of the Center for Disability Access and Resources (CDAR) the Access Consultant works to ensure equal access for students with disabilities in all aspects of campus life, as specified by the mandates of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAA), the Fair Housing Act, and state and university policies.

rrMinimum Qualifications:

r

  • Bachelors Degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, sociology, exercise, sport and health sciences, medical sciences, organizational leadership and learning, human development and family studies, communication, or family and consumer science

{=html} <!-- --> - One year of post-graduate professional experience coordinating services to individuals with disabilities - Interviewing disability and making determination - Using computer software and applications for word processing, email, internet searches, and data organization

rrPreferred Qualifications:

r

  • Masters degree in social work, special education, vocational rehabilitation counseling, counseling, or closely related field
  • Experience providing support to individuals with mental health or learning disabilities
  • Knowledge of disability laws (Sec. 504, ADA, ADAAA) and appropriate services/accommodations for students with disabilities at the post-secondary level
  • Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills; experience writing concise reports
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes
  • Experience using professional judgment, solve problems and make sound decisions
  • Experience interpreting, applying and explaining laws to others
  • Ability to teach learning strategies to students with disabilities, particularly related to executive functioning disorders
  • Ability to mediate issues, implementing accommodations
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task
  • Experience working with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
