POSITION LANGUAGE SUPPORT SPECIALIST
STARTING DATE August 25, 2023
SALARY \$21.88/hour
HOURS 7.25 hours/day
JOB DESCRIPTION Work under the direction of the Special Education
Teacher/Teacher for the
Deaf/Hard of Hearing to facilitate learning English and American Sign
Language/Pidgin Signed English (ASL/PSE) for students who are deaf/hard
of hearing in a variety of settings.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Training and skill in American Sign Language/Pidgin Signed English
(ASL/PSE).
2. Ability to adapt and present curriculum under direction of the
teaching
staff to match students level of understanding.
3. Basic knowledge of language development.
4. Ability to work well with a wide variety of adults and children.
5. Ability to teach and mentor language development, both spoken and
signed depending on the students IEP language goals.
Desired
1. Training or experience in childhood development and/or elementary
education.
2. Training or experience in helping children with special needs.
3. Willingness to help students, peers, staff and others in the
understanding
and use of sign language.
4. Willingness to participate in team meetings.
