Azure is the world's computer, hosting critical customer workloads, and the latest LLM models. Azure Core is the team that builds the operating system that runs Azure. We are a group within Azure core that is focused on leveraging software and Machine Learning to operate our servers, GPUs, and datacenters at the highest levels of efficiency and reliability. This group works super closely with Azure systems research group, comprised of star researchers in distributed systems space. Our initiatives have saved Microsoft multiple Billions of dollars and made critical contributions towards Microsoft’s sustainability goals. We are at the forefront of Microsoft GPU/LLM push, including building critical components for the AI training super computers. We are the software-defined-datacenter (SDD) Team. As the charter for our team is increasing, we are super excited to make a strategic investment in building an engineering team in Prague.

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager (Founding manager) to build, lead and grow this new Azure Core’s SDD team in Prague. You along with your team will deliver projects on critical services and systems focused on power efficiency/sustainability, Machine learning platform for systems, automated and intelligent outage response systems, software-defined repair system etc. In your role, you will work on recruiting top engineering talent for your team, and you will lead your new team both as a tech lead as well as a people manager. Your goal is to grow a strong team that tackles some of the most impactful and exciting problems in the Azure Core platform. You will also collaborate with teams across Azure and Microsoft, across geographies.

Responsibilities

• Deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring.

• Design and develop distributed cloud software services and solutions that are engineered for scale, availability, high performance, and high reliability.

• Own and deliver complete features including design, architecture, implementation, testability, debugging, and shipping.

• Collaborate with partner teams across the world to drive key platform capacity management capabilities and enhance customer capacity experience scenarios.

• Deliver high quality of service to Azure customers through live-site excellence.

• Advocate for best practices in software engineering.

Qualifications

Required Qualifcations:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND senior-level technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

• OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional / Preferred Qualifcations:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND senior-level technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND senior-level technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience.

• Mid to senior level people management experience.
