We are looking for a Plant Manager in our Muskego, WI Facility to support the Loading Dock Seal and Shelter Manufacturing facility.

Position Summary : The Plant Manager plans, manages, and directs all phases of plant activities for single site assembly, distribution, manufacturing, and/or production plants including but not limited to production, quality assurance/control, maintenance, receiving, and shipping. Responsible to achieve efficient and economical production consistent with customer needs, production schedules, company quality, safety, and profit goals.

Description of Essential Job Functions:

Oversee and manage plant activities including production, quality assurance/control, maintenance, receiving, and shipping to ensure safety, quality, cost, and morale and to meet and exceed customer and Company requirements.

  • Develop objectives, policies, and plans for the plant’s activities to enable the accomplishment of the company’s strategic plans.

  • Assure coordination and integration of work flow, timely production, conformance to budgets and proper utilization of personnel, skills, machines, equipment and facilities.

  • Supervise and coordinate the various programs essential to manufacturing procedures such as training, safety, environmental, housekeeping, work simplification, cost reduction, quality improvement, etc.

  • Assist in timely development of new products by coordinating plant operations; quickly resolve competing functional area needs and maintain a participative and cooperative team effort.

  • Establish and encourage a culture that promotes quality in all aspects of the operations.

  • Ensure all products conform with quality and delivery specifications as well as customer expectations.

  • Drive and achieve sustained continuous improvement activities and results using Lean, Six Sigma, and other tools.

  • Confer with General Manager and customer service personnel regarding scheduling problems or delays, quality issues.

  • Oversee all shipping activities for the entire facility. Investigate and communicate any problems in shipments, delays, etc.

  • Implement and share best practices and proactively support corporate wide activities.

    Understand and execute all plant policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate and/or support the implementation of plant policies and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation of the Company and its employees.

  • Promote a safe and healthy working environment and compliance with federal and state safety regulations by monitoring safety and health awareness and corrective action activities.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance in all areas of responsibility to include those related to environmental and transportation areas together with identification, handling and disposal of hazardous wastes.

  • Ensure alignment of plant policies and procedures, including employee handbook, with Company policies and procedures.

  • Ensure conformance with company work rules and oversee or personally take corrective actions.

  • Manage plant practices and procedures in compliance with Company and industry standards (e.g., ISO-9001-2015).

  • Oversee compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.

    Assist General Manager in the development and management of annual plan, operating and capital expense budgets, key measures, operating efficiency, and cost control.

  • Assist General Manager by recommending operating and capital expense budgets for the facility.

  • Support and/or coordinate major projects such as expansion of facilities, acquisitions and installation of capital equipment, major repairs and overhauls, plant layout changes, etc. to the best economic advantage.

  • Proactively manage all equipment capital expense projects to improve manufacturing reliability and robustness.

  • In conjunction with Engineering, research new equipment and recommended changes or replacement.

  • Oversees, directs, and has financial oversite for facility and equipment maintenance through inside or contract maintenance services.

  • Achieve plant KPI targets for production, quality, safety, financial, human resources, and environmental metrics.

  • Recommend increase and/or decrease in manpower to meet scheduling requirements in a cost efficient manner to include making recommendations/decisions on overtime and use of temporary help.

    Through motivating techniques and delegation of authority to subordinate manufacturing and support staff, coordinate and guide activities in the areas of manufacturing, facility maintenance, Lean, housekeeping/5S, quality enhancements, staffing, training, employee relations, and other related activities.

  • Plan and establish the organizational structure, relationships, functions, line of authority, etc. for each subordinate area.

  • Personally interview and select, with assistance from the General Manager, personnel to fill departmental positions.

  • Train and assist subordinates in the proper handling of responsibilities.

  • In conjunction with Human Resources, maintain positive employee relations and participate in employee complaint/grievance meetings.

  • Provide assistance in union contract negotiations as needed (if applicable).

  • Ensure further development of employees through performance evaluation, development of training plans, feedback, coaching, and cascade training. Update employee training matrix and schedule any needed training.

  • Participate in monthly meetings with employees to communicate state of business.

  • Promote and support community and employee engagement initiatives.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the responsible area for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Qualification Requirements:

    Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Operations Management; Industrial Engineering; Manufacturing Engineering; Supply Chain; Business Administration; or related field preferred but not required.

  • 7-10 years of manufacturing and progressively responsible manufacturing supervision/management experience.

  • Additional training relating to manufacturing or operations management is a plus.

  • Practical experience and working knowledge of Basic Equipment Care (BEC) and Preventive Maintenance Optimization (PMO) systems for machinery, tooling, and gauges.

  • Practical experience applying Lean principles in a manufacturing environment.

  • Practical experience applying Total Quality Production System (TQPS) principles in a manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.

  • Experience working with integrated computer programs and/or applications.

  • Lean Six Sigma certification a plus.

    Other Qualifications, Experience, or Requirements:

  • Ability to speak conversational Spanish is a plus.

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time to visit customers, vendors, suppliers, and other manufacturing sites including travel for training on new equipment and processes may also be required.

  • Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
