CLASS TITLE: Papilion Operations Assistant Manager (Part-Time)

PURPOSE OF THE CLASSIFICATION:

Under direction of the Papilion Operations Manager, this part-time classification is responsible for and participates in overall day to day management of the Papilion. Supervises Papilion rentals, special events and visitor services to include admissions and guest relations.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

Develops and organizes City wide events utilizing community and department resources and facilities.

Organizes, supervises and evaluates employees; assigns priorities and work; trains and instructs staff personnel; coordinates activities and acts on employee problems; recruits, interviews and recommends staff selections.

Reviews employee time and attendance.

Works with staff to determine departmental needs for educational programming.

Works with staff to determine maintenance and development needs for landscapes and horticultural/zoological displays.

Develops and coordinates seasonal multi-partner festivals and events.

Develops and coordinates multi-contact initiatives for families and youth including family and adult programming.

Cultivates and fosters partnerships with supporting organizations.

Develops self guided field trip lesson plans.

Collaborate with staff to enhance visitor experiences.

Markets and promotes the Garden, its facilities and events to appropriate audiences utilizing mass media, social media, press releases, direct mail, newsletters, website, etc.

Markets event offerings to positively impact visitation, related revenues and the Gardens image.

Works with staff, graphic designers and printers to produce brochures, postcards, posters and other printed materials.

Creates and displays gift shop merchandise.

Networks and maintains connections with other events and media-related professionals in the industry and community.

Assists visitor services staff with planning and implementation of selected Papilion events and programs.

Performs other work as necessary and or as assigned.

Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Papilion Operations Assistant Manager reports directly to the Papilion Operations Manager.

The Papilion Operations Assistant Manager supervises the Papilion seasonal concession workers and gift shop workers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in the recreation, business, marketing or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Considerable knowledge of public relations, promotions and marketing; good knowledge of special events management and coordination. Candidate must have strong leadership, decision making, interpersonal and organizational skills; strong written and verbal communication skills; solid presentation, negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution and meeting management skills. Ability to plan and develop a variety of special event programs; ability to organize, direct and motivate the activities of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community groups and the public; ability to present information in a clear and concise manner; ability to promote department activities and to generate funds for program implementation.
