Vanderbilt University Clinical Counselor, Health and Wellness (Part-Time) in Nashville, Tennessee

As the Clinical Counselor, you will join the Vanderbilt community located in Nashville, TN, a world-class city on the rise, with cosmopolitan flair, and small-town appeal. You will provide short-term mental health services to faculty, staff and postdocs, and specialized crisis intervention and follow-up services. You will also perform community outreach and liaison activities as needed. Multicultural awareness and responsiveness are important components. The Center of Expertise (COE) for Health, Wellbeing, and Belonging serves a central role in leading a coordinated effort to promote health and wellbeing within the university. The office works in collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, including, but not limited to, the Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Faculty Affairs, Office of the Vice Provost for Research, and other COEs within the Division of People, Culture and Belonging. The COE oversees management of public health operations, employee wellbeing programs, and employee affinity groups. It also provides expertise and advisement on strategic direction for all health and wellbeing activities for faculty, staff, and postdocs. In addition, the COE serves as subject-matter experts for issues related to student health and wellbeing.

This is a part-time position. No weekends. No on-call work.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide professional, short-term mental health services to faculty and staff:

  • Develop effective working relationships with the Vanderbilt community, including Vanderbilt University People Experience, Vanderbilt University Police Department, academic deans, faculty, and other relevant campus partners, to ensure a collaborative support network on campus to respond to faculty and staff needs and optimize support and safety for Vanderbilt employees.

  • Provide outreach and educational programming to campus community to support campus and individual mental wellness, physical wellness, financial wellness, social wellness, and skill development.

  • Maintain appropriate and timely documentation for recordkeeping and communication with other service providers based on ethical and legal standards and requirements to enhance care for faculty and staff.

Provide specialized crisis intervention and follow-up services:

  • Provide clinical assessments of faculty and staff in a mental health crisis demonstrating effective diagnostic skills and effective treatment planning for a variety of mental health concerns and conditions.

  • Respond to mental health emergencies in a culturally responsive manner to support faculty and staff in a framework and manner that acknowledges their unique and intersecting personal and cultural identities.

  • Provide crisis intervention and CISM (critical incident stress management services) for individuals and groups of faculty and staff in response to traumatic events, as needed.

  • Assist with trainings and educational workshops as appropriate.

  • Identify appropriate interventions for faculty and staff in crisis, working effectively with the COE for Health, Wellbeing, and Belonging staff to access appropriate resources.

  • Communicate with campus partners supporting faculty and staff in crisis.

  • Collaborate with Vanderbilt University People Experience and academic leaders to support employees during difficult work situations.

Supervisory Relationships: This position does not have supervisory responsibility at this time; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Health, Wellbeing, and Belonging Programs.

Qualifications

  • A master’s degree, or equivalent education and work experience, is required.

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required.

  • A discipline-specific license is required, i.e. Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Employee Assistant Professional or Substance Abuse Professional.

  • A demonstrated ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds is preferred.

  • Effective interpersonal skills to form and maintain meaningful relationships with employees, colleagues, and all stakeholders preferred.

  • A demonstrated skill in written and oral communication, including public speaking and group meeting facilitation is preferred.

  • The ability to function in an acute care model for assessment and management of clinical emergencies is preferred.
