Consulting member of technical staff, Oracle Exadata/RAC Software development

Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) allow customers to run a single Oracle Database across multiple servers to increase availability and enable horizontal scalability, while accessing shared storage. User sessions connecting to Oracle RAC instances can failover and safely replay changes during outages, without any changes to end user applications, hiding the impact of the outages from end users.

Oracle clusterware is one of the main components of Oracle RAC, that transforms a collection of servers into a high availability cluster. From a management perspective, the cluster is handled as a single entity as opposed to a pool of independent servers. Additionally, Oracle Clusterware provides failure detection, failover, and node membership management for the cluster.

The Oracle Exadata is a computing platform optimized for running Oracle Databases. Exadata is a combined hardware and software platform that includes scale-out x86-64 computer and storage servers, RoCE networking, RDMA-addressable memory acceleration, NVMe flash, and specialized software. Oracle RAC software together with Oracle Exadata, takes availability, performance, and durability of Oracle Database services to the next level. This combination not only powers Oracle Cloud infrastructure but also majority of the issues applications of ONPREM Oracle customers.

We are looking for software developers to design, innovate and tune Oracle RAC-Clusterware software, for new features and complex system level problems. You will lead the software design, development, and deployment of various critical components of the system and help mentor/lead a team of experienced engineers. You should be hands-on with the ability to dig deeper into any part of the stack while also having the ability to look at the big picture and make engineering decisions. You should also be able to apply those fundamentals to real-world problems and produce specialized solutions.

Qualifications:

Must have:

  • 10+ years of experience in delivering and leading highly scalable and highly available distributed systems.

  • Experience in system programming using C.

  • Proven experience in C programming for low level software for storage systems, networks and distributed applications.

  • Good understanding of Linux operating system related to multithreading, critical section locking, OS scheduling, IO layer, file systems.

  • Strong knowledge in data structures, algorithms, and computer science fundamentals.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills using gdb, valgrind.

  • Ability to handle critical customer issues.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience as a software engineer/developer

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design and architecture of large-scale Distributed Systems

  • Design, write and deliver software to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Oracle RAC-Clusterware.

  • Participate in research and prototyping (proof of concept) different aspect of Oracle RAC

  • Solve complex and difficult problems and build automation to prevent them from happening again.

  • Design, develop, fix, and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

US: Hiring Range: from $96,800 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
