Position Description

Join the dynamic Metro Public Health Department’s Human Resources Team! We’re on the lookout for a driven and skilled individual to dive into professional, technical, and analytical HR duties. You’ll play a key role in our HR recruiting and talent acquisition efforts, while also supporting areas like employee relations, compliance, or training.

Your main tasks will include sourcing top talent, posting job openings, screening applicants, consulting with hiring managers, and maintaining candidate correspondence. Plus, you’ll get to tackle a variety of related duties that keep our team and our department running smoothly.

Typical Duties

Plans and conducts recruitments for a wide variety of positions; writes job announcements, advertisements, and correspondence; reviews and evaluates employment applications; confers with departmental staff to develop exam components and interview questions; generates and maintains recruitment lists and registers.

  • Analyzes job classes and positions using information obtained in written and/or verbal form.

  • Enters posting and screening process in NEOGOV

  • Collects information to determine job duties,

  • Establishes minimum qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Writes and revises job descriptions.

  • Gathers and analyzes salary data.

  • Makes salary recommendations for new or existing classifications.

  • Gathers and analyzes information on salary, benefits, and HR practices.

  • Interprets and explains Civil Service rules, policies, and procedures.

  • May confer with departmental staff and counsel employees and managers on HR practices;

  • May conduct investigations and write reports on EEO, Title VII, sexual harassment, employee grievances, or other employee complaints.

  • May help administer various training programs; Keeps abreast of legislative, procedural, or other changes related to HR.

  • Other HR duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • One year of human resources or related experience.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with Oracle R12 and NeoGov

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing HR.

  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of research, analysis, and report presentation.

  • Skills in using software packages MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.

  • Skill in investigating, compiling, and summarizing a variety of data.

  • Proven oral and written communication skills.

  • Skill at analyzing data and drawing meaningful conclusions.

  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to write clear and accurate reports.

  • Skills in using software packages MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Full-time, Civil Service positions -

10 Vacation Days per year (increasing after 5 years of service)

1 Sick Day per month

12 Paid Holidays per year

Public Safety - Sworn and Civilian positions -

20 vacation days per year
