Commander, Navy Installations Summer Seasonal - Lifeguard (Pool) in Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida

Summary This position is located at the Fitness Division, Aquatics Branch of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, NAS Jacksonville, FL. The primary purpose of this position is to perform lifeguard duties which involve the safeguarding of the lives of patrons of the indoor or outdoor pool located at NAS Jacksonville. CERTIFICATES MUST BE INCLUDED WITH APPLICATION IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR EMPLOYMENT Responsibilities This is a seasonal position only with employment ending no later than 31 October 2024. Responsible for the safety of swimmers in the pool. Remain alert and continuously observe swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Enforce swimming pool rules and regulations, assist swimmers having difficulty and rescue those in trouble. Perform rescue work and when necessary, render first aid until such time as qualified doctor or other emergency personnel are present. In case of a serious accident will call for an ambulance. Prepare complete accident report. Alert supervisor of unusual circumstances. Perform any necessary housekeeping tasks to ensure proper standards of cleanliness, sanitation and appearance of pool and related facilities (vacuuming pool, cleaning deck, etc.) Inspect pool and surrounding area ensuring cleanliness and safety at all times. Check chlorine and PH levels on a scheduled basis. Immediately communicate problems or concerns of the aquatic environment to the aquatics manager. Determine patron eligibility and provides quality customer service to patrons. Answer questions and provides program information to patrons. May assist with scheduled pool parties after hours of operation or with a base wide special event. Maintain daily logs and records. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Sufficient maturity to focus on the importance of due diligence of patrons at all times. Ability to exercise control over a large group of people. Ability to appropriately identify hazards or hazards situations; and immediately identify a patron's need for assistance vice general play. Act decisively and immediately in any situation which could result in harm to a patron - either by identifying a patron in distress, or by the ability to tactful but forcefully provide instruction on water safety and facility rules and regulations and enforce them. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
