Naval Sea Systems Command TECHNICIAN in Naval Base Newport, Rhode Island

Summary You will serve as the ISE Operations Lead in the RAPID PROTOTYPING & CALIBRATION Branch of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI. Responsibilities You will serve as the ISE Operations Lead as a senior technician and performs technical work primarily requiring a practical knowledge of (a) the techniques and theories characteristic of machining. You will oversee the daily operation of the ISE machine shop. You will do the scheduling, expediting request, analyzing machine workload, operational safety, building requirements, hold scheduling meetings and report any issues directly to the branch head. You will coordinate with internal and external customers to finalize and approve shop processes and quality assurance methods. You will interface with Newport managers and/or program team leads to assist in development of cost and delivery schedules. You will introduce measures to expedite production or repair of hardware, including development of documents to record processing of components. You will participate in multi-dispositional teams to report progress, solve problems and discuss issues relative to success of major programs. You will monitor progress of team members, perform trade related work, perform acceptance inspection and validate product quality. You will resolve disputes, train employees and motivate team members of the following trades: sheet metal mechanics, machinists, toolmakers, quality inspectors and CNC machine programmers. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-4 (GS-11/12 equivalency) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning and coordinating manufacturing operations for metal fabrication and machine shop projects (i.e. CNC programming, machining, toolmaking, sheet metal mechanic, welding, prototyping).
