Provides instruction for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) educational offerings, and participates in program planning, implementation, and evaluation. Participates in related projects.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an EMS Instructor at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  1. Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of EMS educational program offerings.

  2. Under oversight of the Lead Instructor, prepares and delivers instruction at the EMS Training Center or off-site, as needed; oversees the activities of course participants during instructional time.

  3. Evaluates learner performance, provides feedback, and develops learner remediation plans.

  4. Fulfills EMS educational program administrative requirements, to include calculation and submission of data and accurate reports.

  5. Participates in continuing professional development programs as appropriate.

  6. Adheres to established University and departmental policies and procedures and relevant quality and safety standards.

  7. Adapt EMS curricula to reflect State requirements, local needs, and national trends.

  8. Participates in activities that promote the EMS Training Center, to include student recruiting, and program marketing events, as appropriate.

  9. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.

  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  11. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

  2. At least 2 years of EMS experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  3. Successful completion of an approved EMS instructor course and teaching internship, or equivalent

  4. Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.

  5. Knowledge of the delivery of emergency medical services in the State of New Jersey; adult learning theory and methodologies; EMS educational program accreditation processes and standards; State of New Jersey Office of EMS rules and regulations.

  6. Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.

  7. Knowledge of competency-based education principles and methods

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  1. Have successfully completed EMT instructor apprenticeship program at HMH.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  1. Emergency Medical Technician Certification New Jersey.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  1. National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians - Basic Certification.
