Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Accounting Specialist for the Office for Research. As part of the Office for Research, this position will support the Director of Finance, Core Services and is responsible for financial analysis and review and support of centrally managed core facilities operations.Among the key duties of this position are the following: - Supports the initial and biennial review process for all Rutgers research cores and service centers university wide.
- Coordinates of financial and administrative support functions.
- Ensures the accuracy of financial information and timely completion of financial reporting requirements of the department; ensuring compliance with operational policies and procedure.
- Safeguarding departmental/university assets.
- Assists in responding to recommendations of internal and external audits and other reviews.
- Supports the Director of Finance in resolving RU Finance issues related to validation of recharge center models for core facilities.

Minimum Education and Experience | - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting function.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | - Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, diplomacy and the ability to effectively interact and build trusted relationships.
- Must have experience with Smartsheet or other similar database and project management software.
- Experience analyzing financial statements and identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-finance professionals.
- Proven ability to effectively organize and prioritize conflicting priorities, meet deadlines, and be a "change" agent to adopt new practices and procedures.
- Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications | - Prior experience in fiscal and administrative duties of core facilities and knowledge of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200). Experience in Oracle Financial Management System and/or core facilities software solutions.
- Experience in an academic/research environment.
- Experience with federal and non-federal grants and contracts.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
