Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist I (RTS I) for the Burdo Laboratory at the Rutgers Institute for Translational Medicine and Science (RITMS).Under the supervision of the PI, this position will conduct cutting-edge research in our well-equipped laboratory, focusing on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and associated cardiac and brain comorbidities, as well as HIV cure research. This person in this position will be responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and directing parts of several research projects within the Burdo laboratory. Responsibilities include performing laboratory experimentation, data analysis, and literary research as required; following of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols in the lab; operating and maintaining moderately complex laboratory equipment; documenting, compiling, and interpreting experimental data. Weekly progress on projects and data analysis are reported directly to the PI. Participating in the development of research project goals, stating problems to be investigated, creating an experimental design, and proposing procedures to accomplish the projects' objectives. This position will be responsible for making ongoing revisions to the project's experimental plans and procedures as needed, as well as assisting in developing systems for data collection and data management. Among the key duties of this position are the following: - Cell Culture work: isolation and purification of cell lines from human and animal tissue and blood samples, quality control testing, and daily maintenance of cell lines.
- Immunological assays: processing samples for fluorescent, confocal, or EM staining, immunohistochemistry & immunocytochemistry staining, ELISAs, and flow cytometry/FACS.
- Molecular Biology work: RNA/DNA isolation & purification, PCR and qPCR, immunoprecipitations, and western blots.
- Generates and analyzes data for peer-reviewed publications and grant applications.
- Provide scientific instruction, guidance, and mentoring for students, fellows, technicians, and laboratory assistants.
- Assists in the development of research project goals, creating an experimental design, and proposing procedures to accomplish the projects' objectives and they are responsible for making ongoing revisions to the project experimental plan and procedures as needed.
