ABOUT THE ROLE

The WSJ Communities team is looking to hire an Executive Director, Strategy for our C-Suite membership communities. The Community Team is responsible for engaging and retaining the world’s most influential business leaders as members. They create a community for members to share timely insights, experiences, analysis, and peer connections, enabling them to make critical decisions that improve their careers and the businesses they serve. The Executive Director, Strategy works as part of a team to develop and grow a vibrant community of members within the vertical, facilitating maximum engagement in our network benefits to provide value.

The Executive Director, Strategy is responsible for creating the blueprint for accelerated growth and the tactical plans to execute on them. They will turn the strategic vision into an operational roadmap, partnering with key internal stakeholders across the business to bring the strategy to life.

Reporting to the EVP and General Manager, they will identify new areas for growth in the business, establish key milestones and timelines, and measure success and KPIs. Strategic deliverables will include growth planning, value proposition, positioning, research and competitive analysis.

Key to success is deep understanding of client and member needs in order to build out a value proposition that resonates. Focusing on both near-term and long range strategic plans that drive member retention, engagement, and expansion, they will be guided by research, data, and member feedback. The successful candidate is adept at presenting research and data analysis.

The Executive Director will work closely with the Community Director and Community Managers on the team to align the day-to-day tactical operations with the overall strategy, as well as key leaders in marketing, sales and the newsroom.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build a strategic blueprint for accelerated growth

  • Set KPIs and deliver progress updates to leadership and stakeholders

  • Maintain competitive research, monitor trends, and analyze opportunities in the market

  • Have a keen understanding of the unique expertise and needs of the membership community

  • Work with Community Managers to garner members’ thoughts on how to best improve and personalize their experience, both at the individual level and at events.

  • Attend membership events (in-person and online)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 15 years of strategy experience ideally creating growth and engagement plans for C-Suite Executive memberships and other high-level stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated track record of meeting business goals in a results-driven environment

  • Ability to work closely with executive teams and understand what is relevant and valuable to C-Suite members

  • Adept at research and data analysis

  • Strong leaderships skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Exemplary verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.

  • Effective working in a team and matrixed structure, getting buy-in where needed.

  • Ability to attend a schedule of in-person events throughout the year. Some travel may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree or MBA preferred

  • Prior newsroom reporting/editing is a plus.

  • Experience working with members of a professional leadership council.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $250,000
