Job Description

Traffic Control & Engineering is responsible for administration, engineering and operations related to the installation, manufacturing, maintenance and removal of signs, flexible bollards, moveable barriers, in-house traffic sign production and other traffic control devices. The office draws on the expertise and talents of engineers, sign designers, planners, inspectors, IT experts, analysts, and others to help the agency achieve Vision Zero and other city goals.

Traffic Control & Engineering (TCE) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Supervisor of Traffic Device Maintainers Level III to serve as our Fleet and Facilities Coordinator. As Fleet and Facilities Coordinator, the candidate will collaborate with the Deputy Chief of Maspeth Central Operations (MCO) to oversee all fleet and facility related matters. This includes coordinating TCE vehicle usage and allocating vehicles across the operation. The responsibilities include coordinating MCO facility maintenance requests and correspondence, ensuring the safe and efficient ingress and egress of DOT vehicles at the facility, making traffic safety recommendations inside and outside of the facility, and any other general recommendations for improvement to TCE fleet and MCO facility operations. The Fleet and Facilities Coordinator will utilize the M5 Fleet-Focus program to create customized reports; and to develop, coordinate, track, monitor monthly Preventative Maintenance and Motor Vehicle Inspection schedules and calendars; coordinate maintenance and repairs with service providers; manage vehicle rosters for all TCE units; track and distribute violation notices and help resolve traffic violations. The selected candidate will also be responsible for responding to numerous Geotab Alert notifications such as speeding, exceptional location, etc. from DCAS by communicating with appropriate staff. The role will be responsible for promoting compliance with Fleet rules and assist with defensive driving course compliance, authorized driver rules, and ESS compliance. Candidate will assist the Division Vehicle Coordinator and management with special fleet related projects and assignments as needed.

The Division of Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Preferred Skills:

The ideal candidate should be proficient in the M5 Fleet-Focus program and possess excellent collaborative, interpersonal, verbal, and organizational skills.

Qualifications

For Appointment to Assignment Level II and Assignment Level III

  1. At least one year of experience as a Supervisor of Traffic Device Maintainers working for the NYC Department of Transportation; or

  2. Four years of recent, satisfactory, full-time, practical experience maintaining, servicing and repairing mechanical equipment, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
