How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

As a Lead Ground Maintenance Technician (GMT) in a stationary role, you will be a part of Delta’s Ground Support Equipment team. The Lead GMT utilizes appropriate equipment and material to accomplish all routine and non-routine maintenance functions on stationary ground support equipment. This involves inspecting, servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and overhauling all ground support equipment and components, such as jetways, baggage conveyor systems, and hangar facilities.

Summary of responsibilities:

  • Electrical/mechanical troubleshooting and repair, painting, body work, and other technical work as required on all Stationary Ground Support Equipment. 

  • Completes data entry to record work assignments and will communicate with other Company personnel as needed. 

  • Lead and supervise a group of Stationary Ground Maintenance Technicians (GMT) Stationary Ground Maintenance Mechanics (GMM) and Maintenance Utility 1 Employees (MUE1) to plan and layout work.

  • Completes data entry to record work assignments and will communicate with other Company personnel as needed. 

This position is full-time with a starting pay of $56.78 per hour.

Internal Movement Eligibility

  • Must be in good standing in current position (no formal performance development – Written Coaching Letter, Corrective or Final Action Notice, within the past 6 months).

  • Be current role for at least 1 year if transferring from outside of the ACS/CGO/Clean/GSE division. Lead GMT’s will be subject to a residency period of 2 years with the exception of the following stations (BOS/DCA/EWR /JFK/LGA /MSP) which require a 3-year residency.  The residency period can be waived if a new job position represents a promotion (within Scale or Merit roles).  

  • Currently on active status, however, if are on an inactive status, you may be eligible to transfer if returned to active status prior to the transfer date.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.

  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.

  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Must be proficient in English.

  • Must have successfully completed a two-year degree at a post-secondary technical school or have a minimum three years of experience in Ground Support Equipment maintenance.

  • Achieve a satisfactory score on entry tests structured to determine ability to perform required tasks.

  • Ability to lift items weighing between 50 and 70 pounds.

  • Be willing to work a fixed and/or rotating schedule including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Have a thorough theoretical and working knowledge of stationary ground support equipment (GSE).

  • Practice safety and environmentally conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.

  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.

  • Experience with industrial AC/DC controls, high and low voltage systems.

  • Must have Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience with some programming experience in systems, such as Allen Bradly PLC5, SLC 500, Control Logix, and Micro Logix systems.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and provide outstanding customer service. Lead GMTs should be able to comprehend and apply information contained in detailed and complex technical manuals, procedural manuals, blueprints, etc. with no assistance.

  • Have good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a variety of environments.

  • Must have a thorough theoretical and hands on working knowledge of stationary ground support equipment assigned to the station with heavy emphasis passenger boarding bridges, baggage conveyor systems - mechanical/control systems, 400HZ ground power, and A/C - chiller system operation and point of use equipment.
