TEKsystems Network Engineer in New York, New York

Description:

Our client is currently seeking a Network Engineer to support IT Telecommunications and Network. They will be supporting the 24x7 Networking and Data Center for our client. Currently, the need is working nights and maybe weekends . The position(s) will be on-site at Primary location will be 1275 York Ave but person is expected to cover other sites as needed – both in Manhattan and Regionals.. The ticketing platform is ServiceNow, which would be another plus for candidates. This candidate should be a hands on network tech that can handle route switch work, change controls, Wireless support with Arista, etc

• CCNA certified – with good understanding of basic networking concepts, like routing and switching.

• Hands-on knowledge of Cisco hardware.

o Software upgrades

o Installation and part replacement

o Basic troubleshooting – Layer 1: physical cable, transceiver, power supply etc.

o Experience/knowledge with following would be good to have:

 Firewall ruleset

 Load balancer

 VPN

Again will be doing everything from physical rack and stack type or more of a config and remote into equipment and setup. and Than just be supporting day to day work.

The shifts would be outside of the 9am to 5 pm shift.

Shifts could change so need to be flexible.

• Mandatory on-the-job, hands-on experience with:

o Routing protocols EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP; configuring, troubleshooting, typical show commands to research issues.

o Racking and stacking Cisco 2900, 3700, 3600, 3800, 4500, 6500 series switches.

o Upgrading firmware on Cisco switches.

o Tools for upgrading firmware on Cisco switches; TFTP and FTP server, thumb drive.

o Configuration of Cisco switches in command line via console and SSH.

o Working knowledge of Cisco Catalyst linecards; multi-gig copper and fiber cards, supervisors.

o Deep understanding of Layer 1 concepts, configuration, and troubleshooting; typical show commands for verification of copper and fiber link status, quality of connection, expected transmit and receive light levels, interface counter types that indicate connection trouble, copper test and show commands to indicate cable short, media types.

o Working knowledge of Power over Ethernet; verification of power being provided to devices, PoE power budget on a switch.

o Deep understanding of Layer 2 concepts, configuration, and troubleshooting; spanning tree, root bridge, BPDU, designated ports, root ports, trunk and access ports, rapid spanning tree, ieee, MST, VLAN, Layer 2 extension, CDP, LLDP, MAC address, CAM and TCAM table, DHCP snooping.

o Deep understanding of Layer 3 concepts, configuration, and troubleshooting; routed ports, switched virtual interface, ARP table, ARP inspection, ARP access-control list, IPv4 access-control list, ping, traceroute.

o Deep understanding of first-hop redundancy protocols; HSRP, GLBP, VRRP.

o Deep understanding of IPv4 addressing, variable length subnet masks, summarization.

o Fiber plant management; installing fiber patch cords, troubleshooting link issues, working knowledge of multi-mode and single-mode fiber cabling.

o Copper plant management; installing CAT5/5e/6 patch cords, 568A/B termination, knowledge of straight through, cross-over, rollover cabling, usage of a tone generator and tracing copper cabling from Location A to Location Z.

o Working knowledge of Cisco fiber transceiver types; SFP, SFP28, QSFP; and wavelength types; 850nm, 1310nm, SX, LX, SR, LR, LR4, 1-gig, 10-gig, 25-gig, 100-gig.

o Working knowledge of network and server racks; Mighty Moe, shelves, rails, cable routing.

o Working knowledge of power distribution units (PDU); Tripp-Lite, Raritan Power, APC; and power cord types; twist-lock L6-20, L6-30, C12, C13, C14.

o Working knowledge of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units; Schneider Electric, Emerson Power, APC; replacing batteries, connecting units to the network, power input and output types; L6-20, L6-30.

o Working knowledge of networked console servers; Tripp-Lite, Avocent.

o Working knowledge DNS and DHCP; What is a host record, reverse look-up zone, CNAME. What is a static IP address.

• Nice-to-have on-the-job hands-on experience with:

o Cisco Catalyst 6800, 9300, 9400, 9500 series switches.

o Arista EOS 7280, 7504 series switches.

o Spine-leaf architecture.

o VxLAN concepts; Understanding what VNI's and VTEP's do, verification and research of host routes in EVPN tables.

o Redistribution of routing protocols; EIGRP to BGP.

Candidate is expected to liaise with Business Stake holders as well as users and work hand in hand with the Sr. Network engineers to support and monitor the network. They will be taking over work from the fulltime day shift team.
