About Citi’s Public Affairs Team

Enterprise Services and Public Affairs seeks to enhance and protect the reputation of Citi, its businesses and the brand through direct and indirect communication with Citi's various stakeholders, including our colleagues. The Global Communications team is a nimble group in Enterprise Services and Public Affairs that covers a broad scope of responsibilities, ranging from executive communications and public engagements to quarterly earnings and corporate reputation programs as well as communications that support our lines of business. The nature of the work provides a dynamic environment where members of the team serve as company spokespeople to media, drive engagement with colleagues and develop external and internal digital communications for a global workforce of more than 200,000 colleagues. Within Citi, the team works with many internal partners, including senior leadership, and regularly coordinates closely with other members of the Enterprise Services and Public Affairs team across the world.

About the Role:

The U.S. Personal Banking communications team has launched a series of impactful PR campaigns that have increasingly positioned the bank within consumer media like never before. This role will help take that work to the next level by executing creative initiatives across earned media, thought leadership, integrated campaigns, influencer work, data-driven storytelling and more.

This role will manage media relations and other internal and external communications for Citi’s U.S. Personal Bank, inclusive of two U.S. credit card businesses – Branded Cards and Retail Services. As one of the largest credit card issuers in the U.S., Citi is an industry leader in payments and lending. This individual will work closely with these businesses to shape PR campaigns that build excitement, engage key influencers, protect and enhance our reputation with business, trade and consumer media and other key stakeholders, while also identifying proactive opportunities to craft creative communications that drive consumer affection and connect to culture nationwide.

The individual will join a creative, nimble, high energy, fast-moving, dedicated group that values a proactive, collaborative communications approach and the ability to work under tight deadlines while upholding the highest professional and ethical standards. This role reports to the Director, U.S. Personal Banking Public Affairs.

This role will:

  • Help develop proactive strategies, programs and tactics to promote products and services, including proprietary, co-brand and private label credit cards.

  • Serve as the day-to-day communications lead for our Branded Cards co-brand partnerships (American Airlines, Costco and AT&T) and lending initiatives (FlexPay, personal loans).

  • Support our communications lead who is driving communications for our work with Proprietary Product Management (cash back and rewards cards) and Citi Retail Services (our co-brand and private label card partnerships for retailers like Best Buy, The Home Depot and Macy’s).

  • Work with the team to maintain, strengthen and/or build relationships with reporters covering Citi and the credit card industry as well as consumer reporters within relevant sectors, including lifestyle, travel, entertainment, retail, customer experience, and e-commerce.

  • Write and edit press releases and other communications materials including talking points, press statements, award submissions, pitches, and other briefing materials.

  • Lead the ideation and execution of innovative influencer campaigns on social channels and bring disruptive ideas to the table to drive earned media value.

  • Identify profile building activities for key business leaders and help to systematically evolve a thoughtful approach to executive visibility on LinkedIn.

  • Develop an internal communications strategy and assist with memos, town hall preparation, videos, etc.

  • Develop and maintain a robust understanding of competitor, and industry, activity; in tandem identify risks and opportunities.

  • Work as a collaborative partner within the firm – building relationships with key business leaders within Global Public Affairs and U.S. Personal Banking – as well as with external agencies and key external partners. Assist with special projects within U.S. Personal Banking.

  • Provide support on issues management to protect Citi’s brand and reputation.

  • Support on internal reporting and audit needs.

  • Staff events to manage press activities and speaking engagements, as needed.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferable in communications or another related field.

  • Minimum 8+ years of work experience in public relations, preferably in personal financial services communications.

  • Experience working across the entire marketing mix, building and launching omnichannel communication strategies, working directly with marketing teams or as part of an IAT structure.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Highly proactive, determined and results driven.

  • Interest in and deep understanding of the consumer media landscape and ability to leverage media relationships for both product launches as well as ongoing media pitches that connect Citi’s products and services to key cultural moments.

  • A strong background in developing integrated communications campaigns with a focus on media relations, social media, influencer marketing and experiential/events.

  • A team player with a track record of success delivering high-quality work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Demonstrated project management and decision-making skills.

  • Superb judgment, problem-solving ability and resourcefulness.

$129,840.00 - $194,760.00
