Google Principal Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering, Core in New York, New York

Minimum qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in software development or 10 years with an advanced degree.

  • Experience architecting, designing, and developing distributed systems.

  • Experience in technical leadership and setting technical direction for engineering projects.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience collaborating effectively across organizational boundaries, building relationships, and importing and exporting ideas to achieve broad organizational goals.

  • Expertise in data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.

  • Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills that drive executional impact at scale.

As a Principal Engineer, you will operate across a global Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization, and partner with the Corporate Engineering and Core Hybrid Platforms developer organizations. You will work with executive developer stakeholders to ensure alignment between the organizations, and contribute directly to the key strategic efforts. You will model and mentor technical talent across the pillars to ensure SRE is influential across the substantial product area engineering efforts. You will have a chance to have a very broad strategic impact across engineers and make a difference to Google's business.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Develop a deep understanding of Google's use of Corporate, Google Cloud, and Production infrastructure to inform decision making.

  • Understand the complex relationship between the SRE organization and its environment, identify connections, adopt different perspectives, and quickly respond to changing circumstances in a strategic way.

  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex distributed systems that combine internally and externally developed software and production infrastructure. Develop and promote best practices from patterns observed in designs and incidents.

  • Collaborate with leaders in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Corparate Engineering, Corporate Networking (GEN), and Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) to influence technical direction and to define and work towards selected states.

  • Lead and collaborate to define a multi-year technical roadmap. Stay up-to-date with industry developments and enterprise infrastructure, and anticipate significant risks.
