Position Summary

The Research Coordinator for the Center for Health Policy (CHP), which houses the Center for Improving Palliative Care in Adults with Multiple Chronic Conditions (CIPC) as well a training grant and funded grant projects, will report to the Center for Health Policy Manager. The incumbent will support the daily operations of the CHP and CIPC research activities. The Coordinator will serve as primary administrative contact for CHP and CIPC and provide administrative support in strategic initiatives aimed at increasing productivity and improving research activities of faculty, postdoctoral trainees, and PhD students associated with the CHP and CIPC.


Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the CHP Manager, CHP Director, and affiliated research faculty, research project directors/managers, and research assistants to identify needs and provide support for CHP and CIPC research efforts;

  • Scheduling and coordinating logistics for various meetings, conference calls, workshops, and enrichment seminars, including contacting and confirming speakers, creating flyers, coordinating in-person and/or virtual logistics, disseminating post-seminar survey for in-person and virtual seminars;

  • Scheduling monthly CIPC meetings, including drafting agenda for PI review, taking and disseminating meeting notes;

  • Coordinating travel arrangements and honorarium for speakers, consultants, and advisory board members;

  • Working with Pilot PIs in completing Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, and monitor IRB renewal dates and required updates and work with faculty to ensure IRB compliance;

  • Assisting CHP faculty, research project directors/managers and CIPC Pilot PIs with manuscript submissions (including formatting and other administrative functions to comply with federal funding requirements);

  • Assisting CIPC Pilot PIs with use of REDCap to collect data and submitting necessary data to NIH as required;

  • Developing questionnaires in Qualtrics and using paper surveys to collect evaluation data;

  • Collating data as needed, including for annual reports;

  • Updating the School’s CHP and CIPC internet pages with relevant, accessible, and timely information;

  • Coordinating with Grants Management Office regarding expenditures for honoraria and other CIPC research costs;

  • Purchasing and managing research-related supplies; and

  • Performing other duties as needed and assigned

This is position is partially grant-funded and full-time employment may be contingent upon continued funding.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience plus two (2) years of related experience.

  • Must be detail-oriented and creative with the ability to anticipate and resolve issues.

  • Flexible and well-organized with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.

  • Good interpersonal skills, be a team player, and be able to work independently and proactively with faculty researchers, project directors/managers and CHP/CIPC team members.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Professional.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the research process, systems and regulations at Columbia University, including the IRB.

  • Familiarity with REDCap, Qualtrics, Endnote or other data collection and management software preferred.

  • Strong applicants without knowledge in these areas may be considered and, if selected, taught these functions.

  • Prior experience in general office management is also preferred for this role.
