About this opportunity:

For students that are currently enrolled in a Materials Engineering program and will have completed 3rd Year just prior to this Internship if in a 4-year program or 4th year in a 5-year program. Only applicants submitting a cover letter, resume, and transcript will be considered for interviews.

Celestica Newmarket is currently looking for a student intern to support the manufacturing process in the Materials Engineering Laboratory. This position is an excellent opportunity for students looking to develop hands-on laboratory skills in the electronics manufacturing industry. It is also a great opportunity to contribute to the success of well-known products through various types of reliability and failure analysis testing.

Preferred Skills:

  • Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Additional skills needed are excellent time management, ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, ability to work effectively autonomously once trained, and must possess excellent analytical, communication, report writing and problem-solving skills.

  • Role requires flexibility to work extended hours and overtime as per customer needs.

Activities:

  • Cross section preparation of electronic printed circuit assemblies & metallurgical assessments of solder joints

  • Incoming quality inspection and qualification of printed circuit boards and components

  • Support process qualifications and manufacturing failure analysis of electronic assemblies

  • Internal customer interface and technical report writing

  • Application of electronics industry and customer standards to evaluate quality and solve problems

  • Hand soldering of electronic circuit assemblies and components

  • Use of equipment such as: x-ray, scanning electron microscopes, optical microscopes, cross-sectioning saws, grinders and polishers

  • This role may also support the Mechanical Engineering Test Lab and the Environment Chamber Lab as business needs require

  • Possible operation of FTIR, Ion Chromatography and other chemical testing as business needs arise

Physical Demands, duties of this position are varied and will include:

  • Duties of this position are performed in a laboratory environment with some exposure to manufacturing environments

  • Lab duties will require extended periods of sitting, standing, lifting heavy objects, fine hand-eye manipulation, working with chemicals/odors, and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or microscopes

Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled in a formal 16-month University Internship/Co-Op Program and are now completing 3rd year of a 4-year or 4th year of a 5-year program Materials Engineering program.
