The Senior Manager of Warehouse Design is responsible for leading all aspects of the planning, design, and optimization of warehouse facilities, strategic planning and execution of warehouse design projects. This role provides the technical expertise in crafting efficient warehouse layouts that optimize space utilization and workflow. This role requires a blend of technical knowledge in engineering, automation and management skills, with an understanding of logistics and supply chain operations. ​

This is a Hybrid role based out of Newport News, VA, in accordance with the Ferguson Flex schedule; 3 days office / 2 days remote.

Relocation may be available for the right individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement long-term plans for warehouse design in line with company goals.

  • Oversee the design of new warehouses or the renovation of existing facilities.

  • Works with multi-functional teams to align warehouse design with business strategies and operational needs.

  • Manage a team of warehouse design engineers and other related staff, ensuring effective collaboration and productivity.

  • Oversees the design of automation solutions to streamline operations and reduce manual labor.

  • Maintains and builds relationships with 3rd party design providers and material handling vendors.

  • Prepare and manage the budget for warehouse design projects, including cost estimations and expenditure scheduling.

  • Initiate and enforce efficient operational policies and rules to enhance efficiency and safety.

  • Ensure all warehouse designs stay in sync with relevant health, safety, and building regulations.

  • Liaise with Vendors, suppliers, internal partners, and executive management to ensure project success.

  • Monitor critical metrics and generate regular reports on warehouse design operations and outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in design, logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.

  • Extensive experience in warehouse design or operations, with a proven track record of managing large-scale projects and leading design teams.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement design strategies that align with organizational goals.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, expertise in warehouse management procedures and best practices, and proficiency in warehouse management software.

  • Knowledge of fundamental professional industrial or mechanical engineering principles and practices.

  • Familiarity with the latest design software and technologies used in warehouse design and operations.

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for this role³. These qualifications combine to ensure that the individual is capable of overseeing complex warehouse design projects and leading a team effectively.

  • Strong mathematical proficiency and excellent analytical skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to lead others to a consensus and influence change.

  • Good understanding of safety standards and environmental impact of a design

  • Strong problem-solving skills; overcoming complex spatial challenges. Being able to analyze problems, devise creative solutions, and troubleshoot issues efficiently.

Pay Range:

$7,949.70 - $17,325.00

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
