Bright Horizons Senior Privacy Manager (Remote - East Coast) in Newton, Massachusetts

Primary Purpose

The Senior Privacy Program Manager will provide leadership and direct support on the strategy, design, development, implementation, and ongoing management of Bright Horizons’ Global Privacy Program that ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and best practice. This role will actively engage with the global business to provide strategic privacy expertise, direct support, and influence management for operational execution and compliance with our Global Privacy Program and legal obligations.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of global privacy processes, practices, and solutions utilized by Bright Horizons, as well as regulatory and contractual obligations. Utilize this knowledge to drive requirements and process improvements within Bright Horizons’ global privacy program and to anticipate risks.

  • Manage, enhance, and document Bright Horizons’ global privacy program to ensure compliance with all privacy laws for the jurisdictions we operate in.

  • Perform deep dives with product/services and technology teams to support completing, maintaining and updating Records of Processing Activities, Data Protection Impact Assessments and Risk Assessments.

  • Maintain scalable processes to intake, prioritize and triage potential and actual privacy risks and provide feedback to drive improvement on existing mechanisms.

  • Develop and capture key performance indicators to demonstrate Bright Horizons’ global privacy program execution and effectiveness.

  • Support internal/external audits and implement required remediation.

  • Manage responses to data subject rights requests and external inquiries from members of the public in compliance with privacy laws.

  • Manage on-boarding and review of vendors’ compliance with privacy requirements, as well as processes for auditing existing vendors.

  • Strong collaboration with business and IT owners of assets and processing activities.

  • Manage Bright Horizons’ privacy working groups such as Privacy Champions.

  • Support the Privacy Department in advancing greater privacy accountability across the company through effective tools, training and guidance.

  • Stays abreast of applicable privacy laws and accreditation standards, and monitors advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.

  • Complete any other duties commensurate with the role as assigned.

Job Requirements – Education/Experience


Required: Bachelor's Degree


Required: 10 years of experience in privacy operations experience working for a large, multinational organization in a highly regulated or scrutinized industry.

Additional Job Requirements

• Essential Experience

  • Experience in interpretation and practical application of privacy laws including US state and federal laws, UK and European GDPR; and exposure to privacy laws of other jurisdictions such as Canada, Australia, Asia and Middle East.

  • Working knowledge of privacy principles and experience with global privacy framework such as ISO, NIST, SOC2 or other similar frameworks.

  • Strong understanding of modern data processing environments, service oriented architectures, cloud computing technologies and relevant security and privacy standards.

  • Capable of deep diving technical specifications and adapting requirements to meet control objectives.

  • Strong project management and coordination skills with proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and run multiple projects.

  • Demonstrated partnering skills, with experience coordinating initiatives with partners in a multinational organization.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical partners, with focus on informing, influencing and relationship building.

  • Ability to build rapport with business units to identify privacy risks/trends and keep abreast of new products/initiatives.

  • Experience developing written and visual user guides and training materials to drive stakeholder education on compliance protocols.

  • Delivering high quality and efficient service, taking account of the diverse customer needs and requirements when looking at ways to improve service quality.

• Desirable Experience

  • Experience using OneTrust platform for management of privacy program or willingness to become proficient.

  • OneTrust certification.

  • Professional privacy certification.
