As a Senior Software Engineer on the Azure Storage team, you will work on varied tasks and projects. The primary focus for this role is to drive qualifications, recognize patterns, and show initiative towards improvements. The scope of work involves troubleshooting/debugging/automating new hardware validation systems which will accelerate the velocity of new hardware enablement. This role is part of the qualification team that owns component level hardware and firmware performance testing for azure storage massive server fleet. This position will put you on a team that has a critical impact on how Microsoft's storage fleet evolves and will provide you an incredible opportunity to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, Implement and deliver high-quality engineering support services and execute robust operational workflows in support of Azure Storage. 

  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders within the Azure Storage organization to define extensible and sustainable service solutions that meet the needs of a diverse set of hardware qualifications. 

  • Drives identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for Hardware tests, and validating performance.

  • Applies, extrapolates, and identifies best practices and shares information with other engineers to reliably build improvements that are based on well-established methods. Demonstrates and maintains an up-to-date understanding of evolutions in hardware technology and the effects those changes have on capabilities.

  • You’ll implement high-performance solutions across teams while maintaining a quality checklist with help from other engineers. You’ll also monitor telemetry data and perform basic analyses to identify patterns that reveal errors and unexpected problems.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.

  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, or PowerShell

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • In depth understanding of storage hardware and networking.

Other Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, or PowerShell,

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in

  • querying tables in databases,

  • AND testing, troubleshooting and debugging,

  • AND working across disciplines, groups, and teams,

  • AND leading teams and mentoring junior coworkers.

  • Hands on knowledge of server hardware and configuration inclusive of HDD, SSD, and advanced ASIC.

  • Passion for driving, improving, and helping to implement security and business continuity solutions.
