Job Description

As HVDC Valves Site Engineer the individual will supervise and manage a team of engineers/technicians and/or subcontractors for the installation, pre-commissioning, and maintenance of HVDC Valve Solutions.

The GE HVDC projects are worldwide. As per the role, the candidate will travel to customer sites on a regular basis.

The individual will coordinate valve site activities and will report to the HVDC office on progress and results. The role demands excellent coordination and communication skills and close attention to detail.

As Valve Site Engineer, the candidate will report to the Valve Site Team Leader.

Scope:

Execute the delivery of the project regarding the converter valve Installation, Pre-commissioning, and maintenance. From the capture of the requirements to the handover to customer, as per budget and within schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead/Supervise team of field engineers/technicians in the field and carry out assembly, repair and maintenance, pre-commissioning work on-site at our customers' sites, or in our workshops/test facilities globally.

  • Lead mechanical work and electrical testing work done on site.

  • Participate in the work of updating technical documentation related to the site activities.

  • Support to engineering teams with 3D CAD tools like Creo when required

  • Plan for the projects and prepare the works (tools & equipment, spare parts, documentation).

  • Report on the progress of work. (Daily reporting, Smartsheet management, progress charts and documentation)

  • Write test reports performed at site during installation, pre-com and maintenance.

  • Carry out quality monitoring and traceability of works (NCR’s, reports, Quality plans, etc).

  • Perform all the administrative tasks related to the position and to the various missions entrusted to the role (Close out reporting, lessons learnt etc).

  • Ensure the security and strengthen the EHS culture of all stakeholders under their responsibility in accordance with the GE lifesaving principles and GE EHS policies.

  • Report all dangerous situations for yourself, others, or the environment.

  • Actively promote safety observation reporting.

  • Participate in the Valve Risk Register to escalate high risks to project team.

  • Participate in the review of planned hours, Cost-To-Completion hours vs Budgeted hours.

  • Adhere to the Valve Engineering SIPOC and delivery processes.

  • Accountability on the On-Time-Delivery and say-do ratio KPIs for the project.

  • Participate in cross-functional tasks and discussions.

  • Lead Non-Conformities in relation to valve site activities, with action plan in place and accountability to close them.

  • When required represent HVDC Valve at the customer sites and with GE partners.

  • Actively share and learn good practices and lessons learnt as continuous improvement for future projects execution.

  • Tasks include: Pipe fitting, mechanical build, busbar jointing, laying and checking fibre optics, pressure tests, flow tests, knowledge of cooling plant, performing electrical checks and tests, etc.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelors of Engineering (Mechanical) with a technical understanding of general electrical engineering as well.

  • Significant experience in mechanical/electrical (maintenance field) and team supervision preferably experienced in working in Live HV environments.

  • Strong knowledge of safety and the environment.

  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Good interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects / teams

  • Ability to document, plan, and execute programs

  • Experience in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Excellent relationship skills, team spirit, are organized, rigorous, dynamic and recognized for leadership qualities.

  • Willing and able to frequently travel globally (including offshore / sea platforms) for extended periods of time, often at short notice.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience of having raised or managed Non-Conformance issues

  • Experience of supporting continuous improvement activities

  • Capable of swimming (requirement for offshore platform work)

  • Knowledge and usage of CREO / Cad design
