Childrens Hospital of The King's Daughters Employee Relations Specialist II in Norfolk, Virginia

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Employee Relations Specialist II is responsible for investigating and resolving a wide range of employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and employment laws. This role supports the hospital’s commitment to fostering a positive and productive work environment by addressing workplace concerns effectively and promoting fair practices. The specialist collaborates closely with HR colleagues and department leaders to provide guidance and ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and values. Reports to the Employee Relations Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Investigate employee complaints and resolve workplace conflicts in compliance with employment laws and hospital policies.

  • Provide guidance to managers on performance management, disciplinary actions, and policy interpretation.

  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of employee relations cases.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of employee relations training programs for managers and staff.

  • Collaborate with the Chief People Officer / Employee Relations Manager to identify and address trends in workplace issues.

  • Support the implementation of organizational changes by advising on communication and impact mitigation strategies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • 2-5 years of experience in employee relations or human resources (minimum of 3 years of directly employee relations experience).

  • Preferred Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in employee relations or human resources.

  • Paralegal experience.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, and Title VII.

  • Excellent conflict resolution and mediation skills.

  • Proficiency in maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information.

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with multiple teams.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities.

  • Proficiency in using HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in an office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc.

  • This position requires presence in-office in Norfolk, VA.
