News Corp Australia Senior Financial Accountant in NSW, Australia

What’s the role?

The Senior Financial Accountant will assist News Corp Australia in providing accurate financial information and insights in order to support decision making and financial planning across the organisation.

This role acts as 2IC to the Finance Manager and will be responsible for driving change in the end to end processes by assessing and redefining the approach to transactional reporting, reconciliations and controls.

This is a 9 month max term contract position based in Surry Hills (next to Central station) with flexible working (3 days office, 2 days WFH).

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and strengthen controls within current processes

  • Implement new and re-defined procedures to ensure the accurate recording and reporting of transactions in line with established accounting principles and policies.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure seamless integration of new processes.

  • Communicate process changes and benefits to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Reconciling and reviewing general ledger accounts, and other financial records to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and maintain the accuracy of financial data.

  • Assess and coordinate reporting on Financial Statement balances and movements to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Oversight on compliance with accounting standards, SOx regulations, and company policies by monitoring and enforcing internal controls and procedures. Support the team and assist with any tasks necessary including: first point of contact in the absence of management within immediate team

Who are you?

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) is preferred.

  • Proven experience in conducting reviews and driving change within a Financial Control environment.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations (GAAP or IFRS).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to engage stakeholders and build meaningful relationships.
