Amentum Warehouse Specialist in Okinawa, Japan

Amentum is currently seeking a Warehouse Specialist for the Hazardous Materials Minimization Center (HMMC) Okinawa. Under a United States Marine Corps Installation Pacific (USMC-MCIPAC) contract, HMMC provides hazardous material and hazardous waste support services to the USMC and tenant customers located on Okinawa. This position's hourly pay is $15.25 per hour plus 15% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) paid bi-weekly.

This position has a rotating shift and will be subject to shift changes, weekend, holiday and overtime work. Shift work, weekends, mandatory overtime (with proper notice given) and cross-training can be required in order to meet daily/weekly workload requirements. Relocation costs will not be reimbursed or provided.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Warehouse Specialist shall perform collecting, receiving, handling, transporting, processing, packaging and preparing hazardous material and hazardous waste for storage and shipment. Works in a warehouse setting and is involved in handling hazardous materials that may be flammable, caustic, toxic and/or explosive.

JOB DESCIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manually loading or unloading trucks or other transporting devices; unpacking, shelving, or placing items in proper storage locations.

  2. Transporting goods by hand truck, cart, or pallet jack or forklift, applying labels to individual items.

  3. Manually separating removable components and destroying items to be recycled.

  4. Processes Hazardous Material (HM), and recyclable materials, including but not limited to, inventorying, inspecting, receiving, picking, and staging.

  5. Inspects shortages/overages prior to and upon receipt.

  6. Inspects and verifies Hazardous Material (HM) for proper labeling, marking, containerization, and storage.

  7. Labels, stows, and inventories Hazardous Material (HM) directed by management.

  8. Transfers to/from shelf bins and loads delivery vehicles.

  9. Delivers Hazardous Material (HM) to customers.

  10. Verifies deliveries with customers' records.

  11. Processes and follows up payment and delinquencies.

  12. Checks Hazardous Material (HM) storage facilities and lockers to ensure proper storage and segregation.

  13. Checks Hazardous Material (HM) for proper barcoding and quantities are within authorized limits.

  14. Uses designated procedures for handling, processing, storing, and shipping requirements.

  15. Enters extensive information to update databases.

  16. Conducts monthly random sampling, annual wall-to-wall inventories in accordance with warehouse procedures and as directed by the supervisor.

  17. Offloads Hazardous Material (HM) delivered to the warehouse, signs shipping documents after verification of delivery manifests and material.

  18. Acknowledges receipt of Hazardous Material (HM) and records the receipt in designated databases.

  19. Assists with processing Hazardous Material (HM) returned from customer HWAPs, including aerosol can punching, purging and recycling fire extinguishers, emptying and draining oil containers, sorts light bulbs and batteries.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Note: US citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

  • High school graduate or General Education Diploma (GED).

  • Must have a minimum of two years' experience and knowledge material handling techniques.

  • Must complete training mandated by the company within 30 days of start date.

  • Valid driver's license or have the ability to obtain one with 30 days of start date.

  • Must possess planning/organizing skills.

  • Must be able to work under deadlines.

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, and able to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to lift and carry loads of various weights and dimensions and ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods when working with hazardous material and waste.

  • Must be able to obtain a forklift license within 45 days of start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certified.

  • Forklift experience preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

Work will be performed in a hazardous material warehouse and hazardous waste storage area, with frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Constant use of sight abilities while reviewing labels and other documents. Constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication and mental alertness.
